The global smartphone market has not seen good times for some time now, with weak demand due to the economic downturn and inflation reaching record highs in many countries. In the midst of this came the analytics company TrendForce message, according to which it is Apple ready to dethrone its archrival Samsung in terms of market share in the 4th quarter of this year.

According to TrendForce, global smartphone shipments totaled 289 million in the third quarter of this year. This is 0,9% less than the previous quarter and 11% less compared to the same quarter last year. TrendForce assumes that Apple will see significant growth, expecting its market share to increase from 17,6% in Q3 to 24,6% in the latest quarter. This should help Apple overtake Samsung to become the global smartphone market leader at the end of the year.

Samsung only managed to increase shipments by 3% quarter-on-quarter in Q3,9, shipping 64,2 million smartphones. Web Business Korea notes that continued inventory pressure, weak demand and semiconductor shortages will reduce its shipments in the final quarter as well and affect its position in the global smartphone market.

Apple on the other hand, in this year's penultimate quarter, it shipped 50,8 million smartphones to the global market and shows a solid growth trend. Thanks to increased demand for the line iPhone 14 TrendForce expects the Cupertino giant's market share to grow further in the fourth quarter despite the shortcomings of its Pro models. It also expects Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo, currently ranked third through fifth, to also lose some market share in the final quarter.
