Google only recently released for the system Android 13 first Feature Drop, but is already working diligently on its next continuous update (Quarterly Platform Release), which should be released in March next year. Now its first beta version has been released. See what it brings.

User interface changes

The first beta of the next QPR update brings several changes to the user interface. The quick settings tiles in the notification bar have been moved a little higher and now "sit" closer to the time and date. When you expand them by swiping down, you'll also notice that the clock gets bigger as you scroll, while the date moves below it. Also new is that the mobile operator is now displayed above the status icons on the right, instead of next to them.

Another visible change concerns the Pixel Launcher. Folders now have icons further apart to make it harder to accidentally hit the wrong one. As for the app icons on the home screen, they have changed compared to previous versions Androidat 13, they moved a little higher and have a denser filling.

Finally, swiping on the lock screen without unlocking it now shows a black background (even in light mode) and completely hides silent notifications. In previous versions Androidu silent notifications didn't show up on the lock screen but showed up again when you swiped down.

Desktop mode and partial screen sharing

As revealed by a well-known expert on Android Mishaal Rahman, Google continues to work on the currently hidden desktop mode, which was originally intended for developers testing multi-screen environments. When in this version Androidu use desktop mode, there is a floating bar overlaying floating or freeform windows that offers options to minimize, maximize, switch to split-screen mode, and more.

Google is also continuing to work on a partial screen recording feature, according to Rahman. This feature allows you to select a single window to record or share, similar to how you can select individual tabs or windows to share in a video conference call.

New Material You theme

First beta of the next QPR update Androidu 13 also brings a new theme of the Material You graphic environment called MONOCHROMATIC. It is currently not possible to turn it on, but it is already visible in the code. Judging by the name, this will be one of the most muted themes you can choose from. It will likely be similar to the desaturated SPRITZ theme introduced in the first version Androidat 13, which already looks monochromatic by itself.

Other changes

The update also brings minor changes, such as the ability to reduce the resolution of the Pixel 6 Pro display to 1080p (following Pixel 7 Pro), fixing scrolling issues on the mentioned Pixel 7 Pro or re-enabling Spatial Audio on all supported Pixels (i.e. Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series). To the beta program Android13 QPR2 is only open to Pixel owners, so if you'd like to try out the above changes on your phone Galaxy, you are out of luck. However, it is not excluded that at least some of them are on Samsung smartphones (and other androidova devices) they will eventually get.
