If you're considering buying last year's Samsung smartwatch Galaxy Watch4 or Watch4 Classic, you may be wondering if they are waterproof. The answer is yes, both have the IP68 standard and 5 ATM water resistance.
Whether you're an avid swimmer or someone who doesn't always remember to take their watch off when they take a shower, solid water resistance (or any at all) is an important feature for many wearables. At the row Galaxy Watch4 you don't have to worry about this, they are IP68 rated so they don't mind splashing, raining, showering or swimming, plus they are 5 ATM water resistant which means you can dive with them to a depth of 0,5m.
In addition to that Galaxy Watch4 to Watch4 Classic boasts MIL-STD-810G military durability standard, so it can survive a variety of harsh conditions, including extreme temperatures, high altitude, low pressure and shock/vibration (smartphones also meet this standard Galaxy XCover). They are also resistant to the penetration of various particles such as dust, dirt or sand. It probably goes without saying that this year's series Galaxy Watch5 is exactly the same with (water) resistance. This is also the reason to buy a smartwatch from Samsung and not from the competition.
The water resistance of 5 ATM is 5 m underwater and not as the author believes 0,5 m, a little education wouldn't hurt. Pay attention to the designinformace!
50 meters
So I don't have to turn on the lock function on the watch before bathing? Is it mainly to keep the watch locked from unwanted operation and water draining from the watch?
@Ondra
Exactly as you write 😉
Since we are divers and have dive watches, this spec is kindly stated as being for diving up to 50m. You can try, but you won't break them up anymore.
Mr. Jardo, the author is really not lying, they are not dezinformace and unfortunately this specification is not about education, but about the fact that once upon a time someone started marking watches with this confused marking.
Here is the actual exact spec of 5 ATM.
Waterproof 50m (5 ATM) – the watch already has a seal, so you don't have to worry about water with it. Shower, washing dishes, light bathing, etc. However, they should not sink more than 1m, so we do not recommend swimming. Suitable for all-day wear without the need to put it off during normal contact with water.
Now vacation in Egypt. Once you forget to take it off and you're good to go. Bather in the sea waist-deep water. Then a week without a watch. And the same thing again today, the watch is about 30cm under water just for a moment and it's over. So waterproofing is useless. ☹️
