Samsung's smartphone business is handled by the Mobile eXperience (MX) division, while Exynos chipsets are under the thumb of System LSI, a completely different division. The Korean giant's smartphone business division has reportedly created an entirely new team to design and develop its own chipsets, meaning it may not use System LSI's Exynos chipsets in the future.

According to the new news According to The Elec website, Samsung's MX division has created a new team to develop smartphone chipsets. It looks like the new group was created so that the smartphone development team could design their own processors and not have to rely on the System LSI division.

The new team is said to be led by Won-Joon Choi, executive vice president of Samsung's most important division, Samsung Electronics. Earlier this month, he was also named head of the R&D team for flagship products in the Samsung MX division. Before joining Samsung in 2016, he worked at Qualcomm and is considered an expert in wireless chips.

But why would a smartphone business division create its own chipset development team? Is she not satisfied with the chips supplied by the System LSI division? That seems to be the case indeed. It looks like the Samsung MX team has been unhappy with the performance of Exynos chipsets for the past few years. These traditionally do not reach the performance of competing Snapdragons from Qualcomm, and their big problem is overheating during long-term load. Another report claims that without customers, the System LSI division could only make Exynos chips for the automotive industry in the future.

People living in regions where Samsung launches flagships with its chips (for example, in Europe) have always complained about their lower performance, despite paying the same money for them. For these reasons, the Korean giant decided that the phones of its next flagship series Galaxy S23 they will use the chip exclusively in all markets of the world Snapdragon 8 Gen2 (or his overclocked version). According to earlier anecdotal reports, the first chip designed by the new team will debut in 2025 in the line Galaxy S25.
