The globally popular YouTube video platform has published a new blog post contribution, in which it reports on how its fight against spam, bots and verbal abuse is progressing, and introduces new and updated tools to address these issues. These are the top concerns of today's content creators, she says, and that's why she's made them a priority.

One of the main changes is improved spam detection in the comments section. According to Google, YouTube's development team has been working hard to improve automatic spam detection, and in the first half of this year, it is said to have managed to remove 1,1 billion spam comments. However, spammers adapt, which is why the platform uses adaptive machine learning models to combat them more effectively. The same applies to auto detection in the live chat section during live broadcasts.

For offensive comments by real human users, YouTube implements takedown notices and temporary bans. The system will alert users when their comments violate the community policy and remove them. If the same user continues to write offensive comments, they will be banned from posting comments for up to 24 hours. According to Google, internal testing shows that these tools reduce the number of "recidivists".

Another change, this time small but important, concerns creators. The system will now provide an approximate estimate of when the newly uploaded video will be finished processing and when it will be available in full resolution, be it Full HD, 4K or 8K.
