Apple and Samsung – the two biggest rivals in the field of mobile phones (but also tablets and smart watches). Although Samsung's mobile phones were around long before Apple's iPhones, it was his first iPhone changed the smartphone world. One presents its news in September, the other at the turn of January/February. One is better off, the other is just catching up.

But which is which? Apple presents its new line of iPhones in September, when it already ran into this tradition with the iPhone 5 in 2012. The only exception was the covid year 2020. In contrast, Samsung now presents its top line Galaxy With the beginning of February. Who is better off? Paradoxically, this is now also in the cards for Samsung, but Apple's strategy is clearly more well thought out.

Christmas is here

The most important time of the year, when the sales of anything are the highest, is Christmas. With that Apple will introduce a new range of phones in September, it has just the right amount of wiggle room to flood the Christmas market with its new phones that are still fresh because they're only three months old in December. At the same time, the user knows that he will not receive the new model before another year in September.

But Samsung launches its new flagship phones at the beginning of the year, and that's a problem. If you want the current Samsung flagship Galaxy S series, it's almost a year old device that you know will be out of date in a month. Yes, there is a better price here, because the originally set price falls over time, which cannot be said about iPhones, but you want to save "those few crowns" when you know that your device will soon have a successor, which your new phone surpasses in all respects?

A hopeless situation

This year the situation is a little different because Apple has a major problem meeting demand especially for the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models, as Chinese assembly lines cost a lot due to covid shutdowns. Samsung, whose flagship phones are plentiful, can benefit from this, and not only with regard to the range Galaxy But also flexible devices Galaxy Z, which he introduced in August. In addition, the fact that sometime between January and February will present its peak, so if Apple will still have trouble supplying the market, the South Korean manufacturer can make a lot of money from it. But it is a unique situation.

Samsung should change the dates of the introduction of its flagship phones. In August, that is, a month before Applem, should represent a row Galaxy S, in order to compare not only the term but also the technological progress with the iPhones, when there is now too much of a time difference between the two series. When they present the puzzles at the beginning of the year, those who didn't get a new phone for Christmas (and found instead only a fat sum of money) can jump on them. But this swapping of terms is extremely complicated.

Samsung would have to reduce the lifespan of one model, or, conversely, unnecessarily extend the lifespan of another. And when we don't even have the Note line here anymore, it's actually unrealistic. If the S series hadn't arrived at the beginning of the year, then waiting until the summer would be a really long time. It is also not possible to present two series in one year due to the naming that corresponds to the year. The only way around it is to perhaps take some intermediate step, i.e. to introduce lightweight FE models. But Samsung has probably dropped those already. It would still be possible to move the date to October, which could already be conceivable. But that's the time when Google introduces its Pixels.
