The angel Petronel is sent to the earthly world to correct a single sinner, otherwise he will go to Hell on Christmas Day. Terrified, Petronel, transformed into a beggar, leaves among mortals whose lives he has no idea about. At the same time, his guide is the snotty devil Uriáš.
Once upon a time there was a king
King Já I. (J. Werich) has three daughters – Drahomíra (I. Kačírková), Zpévanka (S. Májová), but he loves his youngest Maruška (M. Dvorská) the most. However, she hurts him when, to the question - How she likes him - she answers that she likes him. The king banishes Maruska and forbids the use of salt in the kingdom. However, in doing so, he causes a lot of trouble for everyone and himself. Only the return of Maruška, who lived that time with a good old woman-spicer and a young fisherman (V. Ráž), and the old woman's gift - an inexhaustible salt shaker, will end all hardships and confirm the folk wisdom that salt is better than gold and love is the salt of life. In the colorful film fairy tale, good will once again triumph over evil and wisdom over stupidity.
Games with the devil
Princess Dyšperanda and her maid Káča would very much like to get married, but they have no one to marry. When a hunting bachelor appears and offers to find grooms for them just by signing with his own blood, the girls don't hesitate too much. Except that the rolled up figure was the devil and they are to be roasted in hell! Fortunately, there is still a retired soldier, Martin Kabát, who is not afraid of the devil and is not going to let those two innocent souls go free... The ageless fairy tale was filmed in 1956 by Josef Mach based on a play by Jan Drda, who collaborated with the director on the film script. The costumes and stylized studio decorations bear the stamp of the unmistakable handwriting of their author – the painter and illustrator Josef Lady.
How princesses wake up
When a daughter is born to Dalimil and Eliška, who is named Růženka, the glory is overwhelming, because she is definitely not ordinary. She is the princess of the Rose Kingdom, where Eliška is the queen and Dalimil is the just ruler. The only one not cheering is the Queen's older sister Melanie, who is consumed with envy and rage in the dilapidated tower because she is older and, according to tradition, should have been Queen.
Princess with a gold star
Princess with a gold star is a free adaptation of a folk Slovak fairy tale, as recorded by Bozena Němcová, a dedicated collector of gems of folk storytelling art. The motifs of the fairy tale, which was first published in 1846 in the collection "Národní báchorky a póvesti", were used more than a hundred years later by the poet, playwright and filmmaker KM Walló. According to her, he wrote a verse play for children, which premiered in the fall of 1955 at the Jiří Wolker Theater in Prague. This play later became the basis for the film script of the fairy tale of the same name, which was filmed in 1959 by Martin Frič.
Proud princess
The fairy tale of all Czech fairy tales about the proud princess Krasomile, who refused to marry King Miroslav. However, he didn't like it and disguised himself as a gardener, he got to work at her castle. Using work and love, he repaired the princess's pride, but first he grew a singing flower for her. And it wasn't just in the Midnight Kingdom - thanks to treacherous advisers, the king banned singing in his entire country. Before everything turned for the better, King Miroslav and Princess Krasomila had to escape from the castle, hiding with common people on the way, and this opened up even more things to the princess that she had no idea about yet...
There are no jokes with devils
In one small principality live all those who must not be absent in a proper fairy tale. The aging prince, who is tired of ruling, his two daughters - the mischievous, puffed-up Angelina and the modest, beautiful Adélka, the cunning administrator who only cares about how to fill his own purse at the expense of the princely treasury, the honest Peter, who is hated by his evil and greedy stepmother Dorota Máchalová is trying to deprive the administrator of her native mill. And there is also hell, which carefully monitors all bad deeds and takes decisive action at the right moment.

Cinderella finds her way to happiness with the help of her magical nuts, and the prince finds his sweetheart despite all the difficulties thanks to such a small shoe that only Cinderella can fit on her foot.
Terribly Sad Princess
Crazy sad fairy tale full of beautiful songs. This musical fairy tale is another of the gems that director Bořivoj Zeman has on his account. He was already famous before its creation A proud princess and a picture Once upon a time there was a king, not even Terribly Sad Princess, whose cast is led by singing stars Helena Vondráčková and Václav Neckář, has not lost any of its charm to this day. The two friendly monarchs agreed that it would be good for their children to marry each other.
