You got a new Samsung under the tree Galaxy and do you want to charge it before first use? But how to get the maximum capacity of the battery, and thus ensure its longest life? Here you will find tips and tricks on how to manage the lithium-ion battery in your device. And it doesn't really matter if it's contained in a phone, tablet or smart watch.

First full charge

With lithium-ion batteries, or lithium-polymer batteries, there is no need to do the familiar process of fully discharging and fully recharging, as you may remember from the past with nickel batteries. It is nevertheless true that the battery should be charged to its maximum value before first use, then it should be left to "rest" for approximately one hour and then reconnected to the charger and fully charged. This procedure will achieve the maximum effect.

Try not to charge to 100%

Of course, the battery life decreases with the frequency of use of the device. If you want to keep your device's battery in the best possible condition for as long as possible, avoid situations where its capacity drops below 20%. Do not fully charge it at the same time. The ideal condition is to disconnect the charger at 90%, and just keep the battery in range from 20 to 90%. In general, it's better to charge your phone multiple times throughout the day than once throughout the night.

Your behavior has the biggest impact

In order for the battery to last as long as possible, to delay its replacement or the purchase of a new device, it is also advisable to treat the current one ideally. The less you charge your device, the longer you will of course extend the life of the battery. All you have to do is follow a few small and non-limiting steps. Above all, it is about dimming the brightness, because it is the display that takes the most from the battery.

Then try to avoid extreme temperatures, both low and high. Although in the first case you may observe a reduced endurance, low temperatures do not have a long-term effect on the battery. However, high temperatures can irreversibly damage the battery. Do not under any circumstances charge the battery in these high or low temperatures or you will damage it.
