We have the season of Christmas here and that is inherently connected with fairy tales. But your free time may not exactly synchronize perfectly with the TV program. Fortunately, there is YouTube, where you only need to search for a moment and you will find a wide list of the most famous and best Czech fairy tales. We bring you their overview. Of course, watching is free if you skip any of the commercials.
Immortal aunt
Matěj sits on the bank of the river and in his sleep Reason and Luck are discussing over him. Rozum, a wise villager with silver hair, wants to help Matej. He performs his magic and Matěj wakes up as a new person. He explains to his astonished parents that he is leaving for the world, and fate takes him to Ctirad's kingdom, which is, however, suddenly struck by a calamity. The generous portion of royal wisdom that the fairy-tale grandfather Rozum conjured for Matěj comes from Ctirad's royal head.
The most beautiful puzzle
The friendly janitor Matěj has a good heart, smarts to give away and, in addition to puzzles, he also likes Majdalenka, the daughter of the farmer he works for. Majdalenka returns his love, but her father has already chosen another groom for her, the magistrate's son Jakub. Nothing is lost, however, because Matěj saved the white dove, and in return he brought a magical strawberry, thanks to which he and his sweetheart can understand the language of birds. When the farmer throws Matěj out, the young man goes to the castle, where they are competing in riddles for the hand of Princess Rosemary. Whoever guesses three gets her as his wife.
The Princess from the Mill
In a South Bohemian village, in the middle of silver ponds and dark forests, lives a handsome young man Jindřich, who one day goes out into the world with a firm decision to free the cursed princess. On his way, he reaches a haunted mill, where the beautiful Eliška lives with her father, a miller. Eliška likes the young man, she tells him that there is a cursed princess in the pond and he stays at the mill as a helper.
Goldilocks
Once a spice-maker brought a strange fish to the old king. "He who eats it will understand the language of animals," she said. Despite the strict prohibition, the young king's servant Jiřík ate a piece of fish. The king punished him for this and sent him into the world to bring him a bride, the beautiful Goldilocks.
Cinderella
During the day, Cinderella's face is covered in soot, but at night she transforms into a fairy-tale beautiful princess in a ball gown made of magic nuts. The handsome prince falls in love with Cinderella, but all he has left in his hands is a lost slipper. As in a good fairy tale, everything turns out well. Cinderella's last nut hides the wedding dress.
Lucky from hell
Honza works for a farmer who has a good and hard-working stepdaughter Markýtka and own domineering and lazy Dora. She applies for Honza, but he prefers Markýtka. To get revenge, Dora bribes the verbiers and they take Honza to war. He kicks Markýtka out of the house. While Honza escapes from the recruiters and makes friends with the devils, who give him a magical cloak of invisibility, a cloth spread with all kinds of goodies and a bag that hides a detachment of hussars, Markýtka goes to the city, to the godmother who serves in the castle kitchen...
Forgotten devil
A fairy tale about how Aunt Plajznerka humanized the devil Trepifajksla, who in the company of good people smelled humanity so much that even hell didn't want him... Mouthy Marijánka tames and tames the forgotten devil so that he becomes a "hardworking and honest man" who can behave properly wielding the blacksmith at the anvil even in Plajznerča's small farm.
Twelve marigolds
"Dear sister, after all, strawberries don't grow in winter!" pleads Maruška, but her cries are in vain, neither stepmother nor Holena can stand over her and drive the girl to the snow-covered mountains, where frosty January reigns. Who does not know Bozena Němcová's fairy tale about the good Maruška and twelve magical brothers who knew well who deserved their help! There is no doubt that Maruška and her Jeníček will eventually find their happiness.
Darbuján and Pandrhola
Havíř Dařbuján has a bunch of children he can't support and another one was just born. You need to find a godfather, and three are offered. God, Devil and Death Eater. Darbuján chooses the Death Man, because only he is fair, he measures the poor as well as the rich. When Dařbuján is thinking about what to do to provide for his family, Smrťák advises him to get a doctorate and immediately offers him help in his new trade. If Death stands at the feet of a sick person, Dařbuján will heal him within three days. But if he stands by the head, the sick man is finished and Dařbuján must not get involved in his trade.
Rumplcimprcampr
Somewhere in a fairytale land lies a rather small, not very rich, but nice little kingdom. It is called Velký Titěrákov there. This land is ruled by King Valentine (J. Satinský) and his wise wife (J. Bohdalová). Or is it the other way around? Anyway, both royal spouses would like to see their only son, Prince Hubert (I Horus), married and on the royal throne. However, he cannot choose the princess his father wants.
About the timid Floriánek
The fairy tale about the potter from Kvítečkov was written and supplemented with original song lyrics by Zdeněk Kozák – playwright and radio director. The story is based on the tradition of Czech fairy tales, which also know the hastrman as an unrecognizable human-like creature. He can help them and establish deeper relationships with them. A humanized waterman will also help the timid Floriánek to be happy. But as it turns out, without his own courage Floriánek would not have won his love.
There is a dragon behind the threshing floors
A dragon literally took up residence behind the threshing floors of a kingdom. Panic breaks out in the royal castle, because the dragon will definitely want Princess Viola. And so the king comes up with a plan, he elevates the coal miner Patočka to royal status, so that the dragon can eat his daughter Lidka. But no one knows that Lidka has made friends with the good-natured dragon Mrake.
A royal promise
The rulers of the neighboring kingdoms promised each other on the battlefield that their families would one day unite. The story begins years later. The prince had already come of age, so the time had come for him to marry the daughter of the king of a neighboring country. However, he doesn't want to get married. Rather, he is interested in the surrounding forests, birds and, above all, freedom. He won't change his behavior even when a beautiful princess arrives. And she will soon understand that she and the prince are not compatible at all. Both therefore want to defy the royal promise. The widowed king is adamant and even though the princess is more than nice to him, he does not intend to comply with the request to annul the marriage.
Micimutr
The shadow of a large dragon circles over the royal castle, Princess Karolína tries on a black mourning dress while crying, and a couple of invited princes feast in the courtyard. Over a good meal, they discuss what should be done. The first prince proposes to offer the dragon a few hundred subjects instead of the princess, the second thinks that the kingdom has neglected prevention and that the dragon should be talked out of it, and the third prince composed a song about it for a change. However, none of them wants to face the dragon.
Beauty and the Beast
An impoverished buyer who, out of necessity, decided to sell a rare painting of his deceased wife, wanders into a fairy-tale castle at night, where he loses his painting and is richly gifted with clothes and jewelry for his two vain daughters. For his youngest, Beauty, he plucks a rose himself. He is caught by the master of the castle, a terrible monster, and he makes it a condition that the buyer either return or one of his daughters will volunteer as a sacrifice for the father. A beauty comes to the castle out of love for her father, and the monster lingers over her and falls in love with her.
Seven ravens
Television adaptation of the well-known fairy tale by B. Němcová about the brave Bohdanka. I curse you, you curmudgeons!” the mother said to her sons. What unfathomable consequences these words would have, no one could have guessed at the first moment... ,Bohdanka underwent the most difficult tests in order to free her seven brothers from their raven form.
St. John's wort
The marriage of Princess Verunka (Eliška Jansová) is supposed to save the kingdom impoverished due to the crazy ideas of its ruler (Boleslav Polívka). And she has quite a few suitors! Poet Alexandr Alexandrovič (Martin Myšička), of whom even Pushkin would turn pale with envy, two-headed baron, warlord and music composer in one Wajsman (Jaroslav Plesl), the mysterious Marquis (Pavel Liška), ruled by the magic of his mother, the queen of death Morana and the eccentric inventor Sir Klevr (Marek Taclík). Can Ondra (Jiří Mádl), a boy who aspires to become a wild water swimmer, be their worthy opponent?
Salt over gold
Princess Maruška, one of the three daughters of King Pravoslav, meets the mysterious Prince Milivoj, who appears to her and disappears again. So that she can summon him at any time, the prince gives her a rose made of salt. Milivoj is the son of the king of the underworld, who does not want their relationship, but the prince defends himself by saying that Maruška made him know the love that they do not know in the underworld. The king, on the other hand, claims that people are heartless and greedy.
Spirit over gold
Even with a spirit you can fly through the air for happiness! Viktor Preiss as a mysterious ghost in an elaborate fairy tale about a young man in love, a beautiful princess and a pile of gold that in the end no one needed... One stormy night on Šibeniční vrch, the wanderer Vojta (F. Skopal) accidentally discovers a treasure underground that is guarded by a mysterious ghost. Vojta is startled by him and runs away, but before that he manages to put a small flintlock and a few gold coins in his pocket. He will be robbed of those in a strange pub.
