Withings, which is mainly known for its health and fitness devices, presented the U-Scan smart toilet at the ongoing CES 2023. According to a company spokesperson, the device was developed after noticing that urine was an "undervalued stream of health data".

The U-Scan is a three-part system consisting of a pebble-shaped shell mounted on the toilet, a replaceable test cartridge and a smartphone app. The pebble shape directs the urine to a collection area where it is tested by a chemical reaction in the cartridge. The heat sensor then activates the smart components in the device and within minutes the results are sent to an app on your smartphone.

Withings plans to launch the U-Scan on the European market at the end of Q2 this year, along with two cartridges. The first – U-Scan Cycle Sync – will use hormone and pH testing to help women track their periods and determine when they are ovulating. The second – U-Scan Nutri Balance – will provide users with informace about nutrition and hydration by testing relative density, pH, ketones and vitamin C levels. It may sound unbelievable, but the device is even able to distinguish between different users, thanks to the Stream ID function.

On the old continent, the smart toilet will be sold for 499,95 euros (about 12 CZK) and the manufacturer will include one cartridge of your choice. You will then have the option to buy replacement cartridges individually or subscribe to the automatic refill service for 29,95 euros per month (a little over 700 CZK).
