Last year's series Galaxy The S22 captivated us with its exquisitely refined design or the rebirth of the Note series. Perhaps the only thing holding her back was the used chip. But now we have before us the introduction of the successor. Read everything we know about Galaxy S23 and individual models of the series, which are supposed to be direct competition for iPhone 14, but also the best of Android world.

This article contains speculation and leak summaries, so it is not based on any official information directly from Samsung and it is possible that it may contain informace, which will end up contradicting what Samsung will officially present.

Design Galaxy S23

As with last year, we expect few changes between generations, although the two smaller models are likely to take inspiration from their bigger, more interesting sibling. Samsung Galaxy The S23 and S23+ are said to take design inspiration from the Samsung model Galaxy S22 Ultra from 2022 especially in the camera area. Their protrusion, which has become a signature style of the S series over the last few years, will disappear and be replaced by a set of only raised lenses from the S22 Ultra. It's a shame that this design is gone because it was one of the best things Samsung has created in years. Although uniting all three phones around a similar look makes sense.

The first renders show that Galaxy The S23 Ultra looks almost unchanged from its predecessor, which is just the camera area. Overall, the phone is slightly less curved compared to last year's model. They are really only details, so it can be judged that there will be a real minimum of the changes visible at first glance.

Samsung's new color variants appear muted, but at the same time unobtrusively elegant. The new green and pink shades are likely to find many interested parties, and there is also the classic black and white. So the design changes are subtle, but they make the new series immediately stand out from its predecessors.

Galaxy S23 chip and battery

Unlike the design, it will be the most important thing, that is, the chip, identical in all models. There was a surprising amount of hype around the chipset, but quite rightly so. Samsung usually relies on Qualcomm's latest flagship processor around the world except in Europe, where it still relies on its own Exynos chip. Not so this year. Reports suggest that even if Samsung wants to start relying on its own solutions again, it doesn't look like that will be the case this year. Earlier rumors about the S23 suggested that the company would stick with Qualcomm - in this case the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, for all markets.

When it comes to battery life, there will be a noticeable improvement. In addition to the energy-saving chip in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the increase in the battery of the S23 model by 200 mAh will also have an effect on the increase in endurance. The S23+ is also expected to get a bigger battery, with a capacity of 4 mAh. With the Ultra model, on the other hand, everything will probably remain the same, because the designers here will not invent more internal space, probably also due to the presence of the S Pen. Except for the S700 model, 23W fast charging should be present.

While some leakers claim that Samsung plans to ship the device with 128GB as a default option, others expect the base to go up to 256GB. It's worth taking it all with a grain of salt, though it would certainly be a nice leap for anyone reaching for the foundation.

Cameras

Although we don't expect the Ultra's main sensor to be much larger (it will come in at 1/1,3 inches), it will be 200MPx. This should be the as-yet-unreleased ISOCELL HP2 sensor, not the ISOCELL HP1 seen in the recent Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. We expect the performance to improve when taking photos and videos in low light conditions, and of course this will also affect the digital zoom level.

So far, it looks like the S23 and S23+ will retain the 10MP telephoto lens from last year's model. Given that the camera modules of both phones look identical, we're not too surprised to see some consistency between the generations. Since machine learning and software optimization are almost as important to photographic performance as the actual hardware these days, expect plenty of improvements regardless of how similar the physical sensors actually are. Models Galaxy The S23 will also be able to record 8K video at 30 FPS, rather than just 24 FPS.

As for the front camera, it looks like the 40MPx from last year's model Galaxy S22 Ultra will disappear. Galaxy Rather, the S23 Ultra could switch to a 12MPx sensor, which prioritizes quality over the sheer number of available megapixels. Specifically, a larger sensor would let in more light, allowing for better low-light shots while also taking advantage of a wider field of view.

When and for how much?

Samsung usually unveils its flagship line at the beginning of the year, and we now more or less know that this year it will be on Wednesday, February 1st. That's the good news, the worse is that compared to last year, prices are expected to rise. The base model should thus cost 1 won (199 USD), Galaxy The S23+ will reportedly cost 1 won ($397) and the top Galaxy The S23 Ultra will carry a price tag of 1 won ($599). However, hope dies last.
