As we informed you this week, Google has started rolling out an update to Pixel phones Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2. While it didn't bring much new (basically just support for new emoticons), it has now been revealed that it has one more hidden feature.

As a well-known specialist found out Android Mishaal Rahman, Google is testing a new feature that will allow users to create themed icons for any app, including those that don't support icon theming. The new option is disabled by default and is hidden behind the toggle “ENABLE_FORCED_MONO_ICON". The description of this switch reads: "Enable the ability to generate monochromatic icons, if it is not provided by the app," which we could translate as "enable the ability to generate monochromatic icons, if it is not provided by the app."

According to Rahman, the feature in Pixel Launcher will work by taking app icons and turning them into monochrome versions that can be themed based on the wallpaper the user has applied to their home screen. The end result will be consistent themed icons, even for apps that don't support them. The function will be appreciated by users who prefer symmetry and like to customize their phone in their own image. Stable QPR2 update Androidu 13 should be released by Google in March. It can thus be expected that the function will already be activated in it.
