All four generations of jigsaw puzzles Galaxy Z Fold "plus minus" had the same hinge design, which carried with it a more or less visible notch on the flexible display. That could change this year, however, as the fifth Z Fold5 display will benefit from a new drop-shaped hinge shape.

There are two main hinge designs used in the world of foldable smartphones. The one used by Samsung is characterized by placing the display and its ultra-thin glass in a tight curve. This results in the internal display having a fairly deep notch and the body of the phone being at a slight angle so that the frame is slightly separated from the other half when the device is closed. The Korean giant uses the same hinge design for both the Fold and Flip models.

Then there is the so-called drop-shaped joint design, which is used by brands such as Oppo or Motorola in their foldables. This design allows the display to bend slightly into the hinge area, resulting in a smaller radius and therefore a smoother and less visible notch.

According to a reputable leaker Ice Universe will be Galaxy From Fold5 use this very design. The leaker added that the new joint at the "five" will retain the water resistance that the fourth and third Fold already had. It will likely be the same IPX8 water resistance. As the website states SamMobile, the new hinge should also bring better durability to the flexible display.

Not much is known about the Fold5 at the moment, according to unofficial information it will be available case on the stylus and will run on a special Snapdragon chipset. Samsung is likely to introduce it sometime this summer.
