As you may have noticed, Samsung on its next flagship puzzle Galaxy Z Fold5 is said to use a so-called teardrop design joint. Now a photo has hit the airwaves showing a prototype of it alongside the "four" and confirming the design.

The photo, which was supposed to be taken at the recent CES 2023, was published by the website Naver, shows the closed profile Galaxy From the Fold4 with a U-shaped joint and the prototype of its successor. The latter is thinner than it at first glance, but mainly does not have a visible gap between the two folded parts of its construction.

Samsung in line Galaxy The Z Fold (and the Z Flip clamshells) traditionally use a U-shaped hinge to reduce production costs and price. Unofficial informace however, they say the company will switch to the drop-shaped hinge design used by the likes of Oppo on its foldable phones for the fifth Fold. And a leaked photo confirms that the transition to a new design for the next Fold has indeed taken place. This design not only has the advantage of not having a gap between the halves when the phone is closed, but also brings with it a less visible notch on the flexible display.

Samsung usually develops several prototypes before settling on a final design, so we shouldn't take this photo as confirmation of how it will be Galaxy From Fold5 finally look. However, it does at least give us an idea of what his next flagship "bender" might look like.

According to the available leaks, which are not many so far, the fifth generation of the Fold will be noticeably improved camera, a dedicated slot for S Pen and will run on the "weird" Snapdragon. It will probably be presented in the summer.
