The year 2022 was not entirely successful for smartphone manufacturers. They had to contend with rising component prices, geopolitical tensions and supply chain issues. that's why last year the global smartphone market fell by 11%, when shipments reached just under 1,2 billion. However, two brands managed to increase their market share: Apple and Samsung.

According to news according to the analysis company Canalys, Samsung was the largest global smartphone brand in 2022. Its market share was 22%, which is two percentage points more than the year before last. He was able to increase his market share i Apple, from 17% in 2021 to 19% in 2022. The Cupertino giant even managed to beat the Korean giant in the last quarter of last year (25 vs. 20%), as at the end of the third quarter it launched a series of iPhone 14, while Samsung didn't come out with any new "important" phones back then.

Xiaomi came in third with a 13% share, down one percentage point from 2021. According to Canalys, this decline is largely due to the problems the company is facing in India. OPPO was fourth with a share of 11% (a drop of two percentage points), and the top five largest smartphone manufacturers in 2022 are rounded out by Vivo with a share of 10% (a drop of one percentage point).

Canalys expects that the global smartphone market will not grow this year due to the economic recession. Manufacturers are said to be more cautious and focus on profitability and cost reduction.
