As you probably know, a new series Galaxy The S23 uses Qualcomm's chipset, globally. They all get the Snapdragon 8th Gen 2 chipset, to which Samsung throws in some extra clock speed. It seemed that Samsung had buried the top Exynos, but that is not the case.

Samsung reportedly wants to stick with its flagship Exynos chipset in the smartphone market. A new leak reveals the alleged configuration of the processor core of the next generation of the company's unannounced mobile chipset, probably named Exynos 2400. This information was published by the successful and verified leaker Ice universe, so it's a bit surprising (although he didn't do it on Twitter, but on the Chinese Weibo).

Ice universe Weibo

If this one is new escape information is accurate, and that Ice universe is usually accurate, the Exynos 2400 chipset will contain one Cortex-X4 core, two high-frequency Cortex A720 cores, three low-frequency Cortex-A720 cores, and another four Cortex-A520 cores. There should therefore be a total of 10 processor cores.

Assuming the Exynos 2400 is indeed in development, there's no immediate reason to believe Samsung will have to use it in the lineup Galaxy S24, although that would be very likely. There is a possibility that the company will continue to work exclusively with Qualcomm for its high-end smartphones, and the Exynos 2400 will be for its other Chinese clients, including Xiaomi, Vivo, Realme, etc. As for when this new Exynos 2400 chip might launch, it's anyone's guess. However, if Samsung has skipped the Exynos 2300 name, and it is more than certain, the company may be planning to launch the Exynos 2400 in 2024.

Editorial comment

Samsung took a big step this year. He ditched his unreliable Exynos and the whole line Galaxy So the S23 gave Qualcomm a solution. In the past, we heard that after the fiasco with the Exynos 2200, Samsung would postpone its flagship chips for a while, which was actually confirmed by the recently introduced series. So whether the company plans to develop a custom chip for any of its future flagships, it shouldn't be next year, or even 2025.

But to develop a high-end chip and not equip your phone models with it does not speak of any reliability and the fact that the company trusts it. So creating a 10-core monster and just selling it is fundamentally wrong. It's clear that Samsung hasn't ditched Exynos in general, as it still has a large portfolio of lower-end phones where they fit in and where they can save on them by not having to buy chips for them.

Chip makers

When we were at the presentation of the series Galaxy S23, we had a chat with the Czech representative office of the company and of course we also talked about chips. Anecdotal reports are that Samsung does not intend to work on high-end chips that should be included in the series Galaxy With return. So even if the mentioned leak is quite plausible, it is not appropriate to attach so much weight to it. After all, it can also be an older message that has surfaced only now. Just for reference, according to Counterpoint Research, Samsung had a 3% share of the global smartphone chipset market in Q2022 7, up from 5% in Q3 2021, ranking it as high as fifth in the chipmaker table.
