Samsung's display division Samsung Display introduced its latest smartphone a few weeks ago OLED panel that is capable of reaching a peak brightness of 2 nits in certain situations. This panel is already used by a number iPhone 14 Pro and some non-Samsung phones. Now it's been revealed that the company appears to be working on a next-generation OLED panel that could be even brighter.

According to a leaker going by the name on Twitter Connor (@OreXda) Samsung Display's "next-gen" smartphone OLED panel could reach a maximum brightness of 2 nits. Another leaker, ShrimpApplePro (@VNchocoTaco), reported that this new OLED panel could be used in the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which will be launched later this year. Such high brightness would greatly improve outdoor visibility and the realism of HDR content. However, it should be noted that display brightness, measured in nits, is on a logarithmic scale, meaning that a 2500 nit display will not be 25% brighter than a 2 nit display. So the perceived difference in brightness will be lower than what the number says.

In the past, Samsung Display's flagship OLED screens have typically debuted in flagship smartphones Galaxy With or Galaxy Notes. However, it was the first to use its 2-nit OLED panel last year Apple. And the division of Samsung that produces smartphones (Samsung MX) did not use it in the new "flags" Galaxy S23 (this time they have screens with the same brightness – 1750 nits). So it is possible that we will not see the speculated OLED panel with 2500 nits in the phone next year Galaxy S24Ultra.

However, from a technical point of view, Samsung Display leaves its competitors (Chinese CSOT and Korean LG Display) far behind, as it improves its OLED panels with each new generation. It also looks like the company is working on MicroLED screens with which the next generation of watches could be fitted Apple Watch.
