One of the common and most widespread features of wearables is that they simply measure the steps you walk in a day. The ideal number is 10 steps per day, but of course it can vary for each of us. Here you will find a guide recommended by Samsung itself on how to test the pedometer v Galaxy Watch, to see if they are measuring correctly.

First - you may notice that steps are not counted immediately as you walk. However, the step counting is controlled by the watch's internal algorithm and it starts measuring after about 10 steps. For this reason, the number of steps can be increased in increments of 5 or more. This is a normal procedure and does not affect the total number of steps.

How to test step counts in Galaxy Watch

  • Walk naturally without looking at your wrist. This prevents the acceleration signal from being reduced by the position of the arm.
  • Walk in one direction in the room, not back and forth, as turning reduces the sensor's signal.
  • Don't over swing your arm or shake your hand while walking. Such behavior does not guarantee accurate step recognition.

If you feel that the recordings are not accurate enough, try the performance. Walk 50 steps a long enough distance where you won't turn or veer. If after 50 steps the number of steps is not recognized correctly, you can try several procedures. First, of course, check for available updates on your watch. The new update may address a hidden issue that removes incorrect step counting. Just restarting the watch can also solve everything. If this did not help, and you re-tested with an incorrect result, contact Samsung service.
