In the clock system Wear OS 3 on which the series runs Galaxy Watch4 to Watch5 or maybe a watch pixel Watch, many applications currently lack support for the Always-on Display function. Google is obviously aware of this, as it has now added support for this feature – along with an improved user interface – to the Maps app.

The previous user interface showed a map with step-by-step directions accessed by swiping up on the screen. There is now a separate instruction list view that takes up the entire screen. No map will appear at the top of the screen until you switch to that view by tapping the new pill-shaped button at the bottom.

Now when you put your wrist down, the map or list will remain active. In the latter case, the next direction will be visibly displayed instead of being blurred as before.

Google started rolling out a new version of Maps (11.65) last week, but the aforementioned Always-on display support and UI improvements are rolling out via a server update, meaning they should be added to the app without your intervention. Hopefully the Always-on display support on the watch s Wear OS 3 will get more applications soon.
