Recently, in connection with the phone Galaxy The S23 Ultra also talks about how Samsung's Game Optimizing Service (GOS) works on it. Many users recommend turning off the feature on the phone to make games run better. Even so, it is better to have service on the currently highest "flagship" of the Korean giant as well as other models Galaxy S23 on. We'll tell you why.

It seems like a lot of phone testers are struggling to get a high average frame rate in games, even with Galaxy S23 Ultra. This is understandable, as a higher average framerate usually indicates more hardware power and better performance. However, average is the key word, as the "average frame rate" metric leaves out an element that is crucial to a good gaming experience. And that is framerate pacing (image latency), or the consistency with which images are processed and rendered on the screen.

We can all agree that a higher stable frame rate is better than a lower one. However, once we leave framerate pacing out of the equation and focus solely on achieving a higher average framerate, we're missing out on one of the most important aspects that can affect gameplay, both positively and negatively.

Above all, consistency is important

In the long run, a high average frame rate that fluctuates is worse for your game than a lower but consistent frame rate. This is perhaps even more true on a device with a small touchscreen, such as a smartphone, where fluctuating framerates can cause a stronger sense of "disconnection" between the player's input and what's happening on the screen.

While GOS seems to lower the average frame rate in games like Genshin Impact, it seems to have a much more positive effect on frame latency. At least that's according to a chart posted by a Twitter user who goes by the name I_Leak_VN (frame latency is shown here as a straight pink line once the framerate stabilizes).

Although it may not look like that at first glance, Samsung is trying to optimize the gaming experience in the right way through GOS. So if on your Galaxy S23 you play games (especially demanding ones), be sure to leave GOS on.
