Smart rings are still a relatively new type of wearable that is quite specific. However, the situation could change if one of the really big smartphone manufacturers jumped into making their own. Bringing in a big name like Samsung could really kickstart smart rings.

Of course, the question of the development of smart rings is not only discussed in connection with the South Korean manufacturer, but also the American ones, i.e. Google and Applem. The first person to come to the market with such a solution can have a great advantage over others, but on the other hand, they can draw on his concepts and knowledge.

More problems than benefits

Smart rings are already on the market, when the company Oura deals with them, for example. Her solution is quite interesting, although of course it doesn't have the reach that she would like. It also has a rather clever way of figuring out the ring size you simply need, which is probably the biggest problem with this wearable. You just loosen or tighten the watch strap, but the ring must fit you exactly. Oura does this with a test set of plastic rings. But even such a large manufacturer as Samsung, Google or Apple? A big question is also the charging of the ring, which would have to be taught to customers.

There isn't much anywhere else to move the wearables. Smart watches are quite popular, but it is true that they are getting boring. Neither Apple even Samsung doesn't have much to come up with when we have the Ultra and Pro models here, and the ring itself could revive the portfolio, because we also have the TWS segment and Samsung also tried it with SmartTag locators, after which it is somewhat quiet now. But the question is whether the manufacturer would fundamentally improve the measurement in the ring compared to the watch and whether it would not just duplicate its functions. The manufacturer would not want that, he wants to sell you both a watch and a ring.

We do have some patents here, which show different concepts of smart rings from big companies, but it's probably not their priority. Of course, Apple's ring would only work with Apple devices, Google wouldn't bother with distribution outside the few markets where it is officially present anyway. Only Samsung could have a wider scope, but does it need to try its luck in this too?

The world is now moving towards some kind of smart headset to consume AR and VR content. At the time, Samsung made a big mistake by cutting off development, because today, together with Meta, it could rule this market and set trends. But not all days are over.
