After months of preparation, Google officially announced this week that podcasts are coming to YouTube Music soon. Along with that, he said that Google will continue to keep the Podcasts app.

During the Hot Pod Summit held midweek at On Air Fest 2023 in Brooklyn, YouTube head of podcasts Kai Chuk announced that the video platform will distribute podcasts through YouTube Music in the "near future."

Podcasts on YouTube Music are meant to unify the "audio and video experience" and include the ability to start a podcast on one device and finish listening to it on another. Audio ads for podcasts are set to appear alongside it on YouTube. Google later added that creators will be able to upload their podcasts via an RSS reader "later this year," and specified that YouTube Music will only support podcasts in the US for now. We can therefore hope that support will be extended to at least Europe as soon as possible.

In addition, Google said it has no plans to "shut down" the Podcasts app it launched in mid-2018 and that the app "will continue to serve audio users around the world." However, whether he meant the near or distant future is not clear.
