Spotify is the largest music streaming service in the world with more than 400 million monthly active users. It recently released a new AI DJ feature in beta that learns your listening habits and scans the news to play you the songs you'll actually like or bring you back to old favorite playlists you've forgotten about. With this new feature, music recommendations on Spotify will be even better.

The constant effort to improve the service is one of the reasons why Spotify remains at the top of music streaming despite strong competition from Apple Music (which is also available on Androidu) and YouTube Music (and others of course). Precisely because of the constant addition of more and more functions, something often goes wrong. But you can solve most of these problems yourself.

Is it your fault or is Spotify just not working?

A service that caters to hundreds of millions of users across multiple platforms is bound to suffer from some issues. You can fix most of these problems yourself and continue listening. If the Spotify app isn't working on all your devices, the problem may be more with the service. Like most online services, Spotify can suffer from outages that render the app and web player inoperable.

To check if the service is down, go to the page downdetector.com, which monitors outages of various services. You can also track the account SpotifyStatus in the social network Twitter, which informs you about problems on the server side of the service. If the service goes down, of course you can't do anything about it and have to wait.

Have you restarted the app and device?

Have you tried closing and reopening the app? Yes, we know, it's a stupid question, but you might have forgotten about it after all. If a simple restart didn't help (i.e. closing the app from multitasking), try tapping on the Spotify icon in the apps menu and giving Informace about aplication. Then click on the bottom right here Forced stop. You can still try it in the application settings Clear cache. Then it's time to restart the device itself.

Check for updates

If your app crashes and behaves differently than you're used to, it's a good idea to check if there's a bug in it that the new app update fixes. Simply visit Google Play and check if a new version is available. If so, update the app. Deleting and reinstalling Spotify can also be a solution. Just be aware that you'll have to log in again and lose offline downloaded content.

Is the music playing but you can't hear it?

If you can't hear any sound when playing songs in Spotify, check if you just have the app or device volume turned down. It could also be that your audio output is set to something else, like Bluetooth headphones, when you want to listen from a Bluetooth speaker. If everything is fine on the settings side, follow the general troubleshooting steps, including clearing the app's cache and reinstalling it.

Crackling sound

If you experience stuttering during playback, make sure you are using an ideally fast internet connection. Also, check if you have a data saver feature turned on in the app, which could be causing this. IN Android application, tap the icon Settings in the upper right corner and make sure the sound quality switch is turned off.

Poor sound quality

You don't just have to encounter said crackling. By default, Spotify leaves the audio streaming quality set to automatic and changes it depending on your internet connection, which can result in poor audio quality. You can prevent this by forcing the app to stream audio in very high quality.

You need to be a premium Spotify subscriber to get the ability to stream in very high audio quality. To set the audio streaming quality on your smartphone with Androidem, go to Settings, tap the option Automatic quality next to the Wi-Fi and Mobile Streaming options and set them to Very high quality.

Spotify only plays downloaded content

This problem can occur when your device does not have a working internet connection. If your device is online and you still can't stream music or podcasts, you may have switched Spotify to offline mode. But when Spotify is in offline mode, you will see information about it in the application. You can turn off the offline mode in the Settings section Playback.

Premium features do not work

Sometimes Spotify just won't offer premium features. An easy way to fix this problem is to log out of your account and log back in. Make sure you're using the correct account when signing in. Since Spotify allows users to sign in with a Facebook account, if your premium subscription is only tied to your email, this may not work.

What if you can't download content to your device?

If you see your premium features but can't download songs for offline playback, check that you haven't exceeded your 10 song download limit. You should also check if you have reached your device limit. Spotify currently allows you to download songs on up to five devices. If you have exceeded the limit, you must remove a device. Go to your Spotify account page and use the button Sign out everywhere log out of all devices currently connected to your Spotify account. Then sign in on the devices you're currently using.

Are you missing playlists?

If you can't find your playlists, the likely cause is that they've been accidentally deleted. But Spotify allows you to restore them. To check that you haven't accidentally deleted your playlists, open the Spotify website and sign in with your account. Go to Refresh playlists and select the button Restore to restore missing playlists.
