The American company Garmin, number six on the wearables market, introduced the successors to last year's Forerunner 255 and 955 models. However, they remain in the range, which the news rather expands. The main change in the Forerunner 265 and 965 models is of course the AMOLED display.

If you want to know your way around Forerunners, remember that a higher model number = a better watch model. The Forerunner 55 is the entry-level model, the Forerunner 265 is the mid-range model, and the Forerunner 965 is the premium product.

Garmin Forerunner 265

The Forerunner 265 watch is available in two sizes and several colors. Smaller models are labeled Forerunner 265S, larger Forerunner 265. Smaller models with a weight of 39 grams and a watch diameter of 42 mm fit best on small, often women's or children's wrists. The larger Forerunner 265 weighs 47 grams, has a diameter of 46 mm and fits medium-sized wrists.

The closest model to the Forerunner 265 is the Forerunner 255 introduced last year. The difference between the two series is mainly in the display used. While the older Forerunner 255 uses Garmin's traditional transflective, non-touch display, the new Forerunner 265 features a high-brightness AMOLED touchscreen display with vibrant colors.

You can tell the difference between a transflective and an AMOLED display at a glance. While the transflective display offers a color muted image that is always displayed at the same intensity and has excellent readability in the sun, the AMOLED display has bright colors, shines, but after a while the brightness partially dims or the display turns off completely. The larger model promises 13 days in smartwatch mode on 1 charge and the smaller one even up to 15 days in smart modewatch on 1 charge.

Compared to the 255 model, the novelty also has a "Readiness for training" function, which evaluates health data, training history and load when wearing the watch all day, and presents the athlete with an indicator with a value between 0 and 100, which indicates how ready you are to complete a demanding sports training. The second novelty is the support for functions called Running Dynamics, under which the measurement of detailed information about running style is hidden, including stride length, rebound height, rebound time, running power in watts or, for example, the share of the left/right leg in the total power without the need to use a chest belt .

Forerunner 265 will be available on the Czech market from the beginning of March 2023 for a recommended price retail price 11.990 CZK.

Garmin Forerunner 965

The new Forerunner 965 is not offered in a solar charging version like the Forerunner 955 Solar. It is interesting, however, that despite the used AMOLED display, with which one would expect a shorter battery life, the Forerunner 965 offers a longer life in smart watch mode, namely up to 23 days on 1 charge (compared to up to 15 days for the classic and up to 20 days for the solar version FR955). However, the AMOLED display has a shorter duration during continuous sports GPS recording – 31 hours for the Forerunner 956 vs. 42 hours on the Forerunner 955.

The privilege of the Forerunner 9XX watch series is detailed maps and navigation functions. The Forerunner 965 is no exception. Of course, all the features described in the Forerunner 265 are included, including Running Dynamics running metrics and running wattage. All with the possibility of measuring directly from the wrist without the need to wear a chest belt. The watch has support for Garmin Pay contactless payments, a built-in music player, security and tracking functions. There is also a calculation of the remaining Real-time Stamina.

The Forerunner 965 is available in one, universal size (watch case diameter 47 mm) and three color options. Available on the Czech market from the second half of March 2023 for a recommended price retail price 15.990 CZK.
