Our wallets have limits on how much they can hold. But everything can fit into an electronic wallet (eDokladovka). However, this is not their only advantage. Citizenship, driver's license, insurance cards, prescriptions from doctors, birth certificates, diplomas - all of this should be carried only in our phone by the end of the year.

Ivan Bartoš (pirates) is the Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalization of the Czech Republic. His vision is quite pleasing, even if perhaps too little has been done for it so far. After all, last fall, eGoverment in the Czech Republic was reprimanded as part of the Křišťálové lupa for its insufficient development. When accepting this "award", Bartoš himself admitted that digitization in the Czech Republic is very late.

The main pillar of digitization is to be eDokladovka, which is due to arrive at the turn of 2023 and 2024. It should not only be an alternative to the plastic card, but the authorities should also be able to fully work with the platform. Everything will be based on QR codes that you just show on your phone. As reported List of Messages, the e-citizen is the first to come. Other electronic cards will come later.

In 2026, everything should then result in the European electronic identity. But it will depend on how the Digital Information Agency, i.e. DIA, performs in the overall digitization of the Czech Republic. It is the latter whose primary task is to develop an application that will be available for mobile phones by the end of the year. It doesn't necessarily have to be some eDokladovka, but also gov.cz. Unfortunately, it is said that it is still not yet resolved how exactly the application should work. So let's hope we don't just get some rushed and semi-functional cat dog, like in the case of eRouška.

The advantage of electronic documents in a mobile phone is then obvious. If you easily lose your wallet and come with all the documents, just as someone can abuse them, no one can get into the mobile phone even if it is lost (that is, if it is locked with a password or biometric authentication of the user). The important thing is that, according to Bartoš, anything "electronic" will be voluntary and will only be a recognized alternative.
