Lately, there have been heated debates about the phone in the virtual space Galaxy The S23 Ultra and its ability to take pictures of the moon. According to some reports, Samsung is applying overlay images to photos of the moon with the help of artificial intelligence. One Reddit user recently showed, how the Korean giant uses too much processing on the photos of the moon to make them look real. At first glance, it looks that way because there is too much detail on them for a small camera sensor to capture. However, Samsung insists that it does not use any overlay images for the moon photos.

“Samsung is committed to delivering best-in-class photography experiences in all conditions. When the user takes a photo of the moon, the artificial intelligence scene optimization technology recognizes the moon as the main subject and takes several photos for a multi-frame composition, after which the AI enhances the image quality and color details. It does not apply any overlay image to the photo. Users can turn off the Scene Optimizer feature, which disables the automatic enhancement of the details of the photo they have taken.” Samsung said in a statement to the technology magazine Tom's Guide.

There is no conclusive evidence that Samsung is using AI-based overlays for the moon photos. However, photographer Fahim Al Mahmud Ashik recently showed, how anyone can take a solid picture of the moon using any modern high-end phone such as iPhone 14 Pro and the OnePlus 11. That means either all smartphone brands are cheating on the moon shots, or none.

Whatever Samsung says, advanced processors Galaxy The S23 Ultra can use artificial intelligence to add detail and artificially enhance moon photos. However, it cannot be said that the Korean giant is faking these photos with a completely different image of the moon, which is what Huawei allegedly did with some of its flagship smartphones. In other words, the photo of the moon you take with yours Galaxy S23 Ultra, not photoshopped image.
