In recent years, interest in high-resolution listening has grown rapidly. Services like Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal and Qobuz offer this option. The relatively large competition in the streaming service market creates room for all sorts of improvements, whether it's lossless quality or surround sound. There is also a growing number of quality headphones that support high-resolution codecs such as aptX and LDAC or, in the case of Samsung, 24-bit audio playback.

Even Spotify doesn't want to be left behind technologically. With 205 million Premium subscribers last year, it's generally among the most popular, but if its features can't keep up with the competition, that could change quickly. The company announced its plans to come with lossless Spotify HiFi back in early 2021, but hasn't heard much about it since then. For now, it is still not clear what its timing should be. Now in the interview for The Verge Spotify co-president Gustav Söderström expressed only that the feature is still in development and that there have been changes throughout the industry that the company wants to deal with in its own way. In the interview, Söderström did not refer to the competition in any way, but it is indisputable that many of Spotify's competitors have overtaken Spotify technologically. At the same time, subscribers are calling for higher quality.

With the announced and long-awaited arrival Apple Music Classical, for which it can be assumed that after the version for iPhones we will soon see a version for users of devices with Androidum, it's really high time that there was an adequate response from Spotify.

Apple Music Classical is access to the world's largest library of classical music. It will offer top quality sound, of course also in combination with Spatial Audio. Hundreds of pre-prepared playlists will be available, and you can also look forward to biographies of individual authors combined with a pleasant user environment.
