A few weeks after Opera announced a partnership with OpenAI – the organization behind the ChatGPT chatbot – Opera has started rolling out AI-based features in its eponymous browser. The features were launched in the desktop version of Opera and its gamer-focused version, Opera GX. Thanks to the integration of AI functions, Opera became the second browser after Microsoft Edge to support AI functions natively.

The new features include what Opera refers to as AI Prompts. Accessed from the address bar or by highlighting a text element on the web, it's a feature that allows you to quickly start a conversation with generative AI-based services like ChatGPT and ChatSonic (the latter of which gives users the ability to create AI-generated images).

AI Prompts also allows users to do different things with the data available on the web. For example, it gives them a way to contextualize and summarize informace on a webpage with a single click and even tells them the key points being discussed on the page. Additionally, users can use this feature to find other related content on the same topic.

Accessing Opera's AI features is as easy as installing it. Once the browser (either Opera or Opera GX) is installed, users will be prompted to login to ChatGPT once to enable the AI Prompts feature. Once logged in, Opera will give users quick access to ChatGPT through a sidebar window, so they won't have to open a separate tab for arguably the most popular chatbot these days. There is also a similar sidebar that provides quick access to ChatSonic.

The company also revealed that these AI features are just the beginning. Future versions of the browser could use artificial intelligence algorithms developed directly by it. In short, Opera's current and future AI-based features could spice up the mundane activity of browsing the web.
