One of the areas where it has a row Galaxy S23 is technically top of the range Galaxy S22, is wireless connectivity. Current Samsung flagships feature the Snapdragon X70 modem, which is better than the Snapdragon X65 used by the S22 series. At least according to the manufacturer, which is Qualcomm. But how about its performance in practice?

The newer Snapdragon X70 modem chip uses a number of new technologies and tricks to increase transfer speeds. Among other things, Qualcomm says that it is the world's first 5G modem that has a built-in AI processor. According to him, this improves the adaptive tuning of the antenna by up to 30% and helps to increase the speed, coverage, latency and energy efficiency of the modem.

Ookla, which runs the well-known Internet speed measurement site Speedtest, now on current and last year's Samsung "flags"  tested 5G speeds, in the networks of operators in different markets. And in most cases, the series turned out better Galaxy S23. So this means that Qualcomm was right when they claimed that the Snapdragon X70 modem is faster than the Snapdragon X65. But how is it actually better?

5G capabilities of the series Galaxy The S22 and S23 were tested in twelve markets, and looking at the results in the gallery above, you'll see that 5G speeds vary widely from country to country. In other words, testing 5G speeds in Brazil with 5G speeds in France would not be a very scientific approach to determining the difference in 5G performance between Galaxy S22 and S23.

Testing Galaxy However, S22 and S23 on the same networks under similar conditions revealed discrepancies between these models and the Snapdragon X65 and Snapdragon X70 modems. In most cases, they come out better Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra, which means that the Snapdragon X70 modem is actually better than the Snapdragon X65. The difference between series models Galaxy However, S22 and S23 are not always the same. In some cases, the S23 Ultra outperforms last year's Ultra by a larger margin than the other models. In other cases, the S23+ beats the base model and the Ultra model and shows the biggest improvements.

Last year's flagship models with the Snapdragon X65 modem rarely outperformed the models in tests Galaxy S23 with Snapdragon X70 modem. However, is a newer modem a reason to upgrade from Galaxy S22 with Snapdragon X65? Probably not. The Snapdragon X70 is just one of the improvements that line Galaxy The S23 delivers. However, higher download and upload speeds alone are probably not good enough reasons to upgrade.
