The Future of Life Institute is now calling for a "public and verifiable" pause involving "all key players" in the field. The Future of Life Institute's goal is to "direct transformative technologies to benefit life and steer them away from extreme risks on a large scale." The aforementioned 600-word letter, which is addressed to all AI developers, states that it is necessary to take a break because in recent months artificial intelligence labs spiraled out of control and began developing and deploying increasingly powerful digital brains that no one, not even their creators, could understand, predict, or reliably control.
