Messenger is one of the best messaging apps available. For Facebook users, it is actually the first choice for staying in touch with friends, family or work colleagues. Although it is full of various features, it is not completely perfect. Here are the 5 most common problems with it and their solutions.
I can't sign in to Messenger
The problem with signing in to Messenger is one of the most common. If you have it too, try the following tricks:
- Check your Facebook email address and password. Click the eye button to see the password.
- If you've forgotten your Facebook account password, simply reset it instead of guessing. Tap the option Forgotten password at the bottom of the screen and use your email or phone number to complete the password reset process. Once you've added a strong password to your account, save it in one of the popular password managers like Bitwarden, Password Depot for Android or PasswdSafe, so that you don't have to deal with this situation again in the future.
- Update Messenger. An outdated version of Messenger can cause problems with account verification. Meta regularly releases updates for it that add new features and fix bugs. Check the Google Play Store to see if a new version is available for it.
No messages are sent
Another problem you may encounter while using Messenger is the most basic one - you can't send messages. In that case, try these options:
- Check that you have an active internet connection on your phone. You can also try resetting your network settings to fix common glitches. If the problem persists, turn Airplane mode on and off.
- Turn off Data Saver mode in Messenger. To do this, tap on burger menu top left, then on Sprocket to the right of your name and then to the option Data saving, where you turn off the corresponding switch.
- Check the status of Messenger (or other Meta applications). Another reason for not being able to send messages can be an outage of Meta's servers. Visit the website Downdetector, search for Messenger to see if the outage actually occurred.
Missing contacts
When you search for someone in Messenger, Facebook will try to find that person in your friends list, mutual friends list, and Instagram. If you can't find it, it could be for the following reasons:
- A person has blocked you on Facebook.
- Facebook blocked her account.
- The person has deleted or disabled their account.
Messenger falls
Is Messenger crashing on your phone? If so, try the tricks below:
- Restart the application. Messenger may crash due to insufficient RAM. Close other apps on your phone and restart the app.
- Force stop the application. You do this by opening it Settings→Applications, by searching for Messenger and tapping the option Forced stop. Then open the app again.
- Clear the cache. A corrupted cache can also be the cause of Messenger crashing. You delete it by navigating to Settings→Applications, by searching for Messenger, selecting an item Storage and tap the option Clear memory bottom right.
Notifications don't work
Not getting notifications from Messenger? Then you probably have them turned off. Go to the menu again Informace about aplication for Messenger, tap the item Notification and turn on the switch Enable notifications. Additionally, you should turn off Do Not Disturb if you have it turned on.
What I observe in my area, most often the problem is that the notification of a new message does not pop up, the bubble simply does not appear. When you open Messenger, a new message appears in bold next to the contact, but until you open it, you don't know that someone has texted you.
Biggest problem: I'm not on Messa or FB and yet I have a green dot. And for a very long time. This doesn't happen on WhatsApp.
