Ever since Samsung announced support for UWB wireless technology and digital car keys for its smartphones (which was two years ago), various car manufacturers have started supporting the feature so that phone users Galaxy they could use it to unlock their cars. Now the popular German car manufacturer BMW has joined them.

BMW brings support for the Digital function Car Key Plus specifically for phones Galaxy S23+, S23 Ultra, S22+, S22 Ultra, S21+, S21 Ultra, Z Fold4, Z Fold3, Note20 Ultra (S23, S22 and S21 are not among them as they don't support UWB), as well as two Pixel phones - Pixel 7 Pro and 6 For. The condition is that the mentioned smartphones run on the latest version Androidu (ie Androidu 13.1) and had the Samsung Wallet app installed. Let us recall that until now phone users could Galaxy unlock your German brand cars via digital keys using NFC technology.

If you don't know, in order to use digital keys using NFC, physical contact of the smartphone with the car is necessary, while for keys based on UWB this is not necessary, because in their case you just need to bring the phone closer to the car. Another advantage of UWB digital keys is that they work for up to five hours after the phone's battery is completely discharged.

Currently, these digital keys support BMW cars manufactured in November 2022 or later. However, the automaker plans to extend their support to some older vehicles for which it will issue a software update.
