Global smartphone shipments continued to decline in the first quarter of this year. Specifically, 269,8 million of them were delivered to the market, which represents a year-on-year decrease of 13%. A number of factors were behind the continued decline, including weaker consumer demand. She informed about it in her message analysis company Canalys.

In the January-March 2023 period, Samsung led the market, delivering a total of 60,3 million smartphones, which is 18% less than in the same period last year. Its market share was 22% (year-on-year decrease of two percentage points). According to Canalys analysts, the Korean colossus has shown the first signs of recovery after a difficult end to last year (in large part, it seems, due to good sales of the line Galaxy S23).

He was second in line Apple, which shipped 58 million smartphones (up 3% year-on-year) and held a 21% share (up three percentage points year-on-year). The first three largest smartphone players are rounded off by Xiaomi, which delivered 30,5 million phones to the market (a year-on-year decrease of 22%) and whose share was 11% (a year-on-year decrease of two percentage points). The Chinese giant saw the largest year-on-year decline of all brands. Apart from the Cupertino giant, all manufacturers reported a decline.

Canalys analysts expect supplies to stabilize around 2022 levels sometime in the middle of this year.
