That Galaxy The S23 Ultra can take pictures of the moon, you probably know. After all, if not, it would mean that Samsung missed a lot with its marketing. So we spent a week photographing the starry sky for you to find out one thing.

100x zoom can really see up to the moon. And it's fairly impressive, not perfect. It's hard to believe that a mobile phone can do something like this. But Samsung has taught its Ultras quite well, because they themselves recognize that you are actually photographing the moon and, thanks to this, adjust its brightness in particular, because otherwise it would just be a white and overlit ball. It's a bit visible when zooming. It takes a fraction of a second for the system to adjust the brightness.

The photos are definitely not perfect because they are out of focus, but you can recognize the individual seas on them. It should be considered that this is a 100x zoom, which in any other case looks rather tragic. In addition, it should be a truly current image of the Moon, which is not overlaid with any existing photographs. It can also be seen in color or if it is foggy after all (5th photo in the gallery).

The process of taking pictures is quite easy, because in the upper left you can see a section of the scene where you can easily find the moon even at such a zoom. Since it is then a bright point of light, the lens tries to keep it in the ideal frame distribution, even if you move slightly, because logically you can't keep it. Stabilization with appropriate algorithms really does a good job here. But what is it really for?

The moon wherever you look

The whole problem with this is that it might get excited for one photo and another. Amateur astronomers can get really excited, but a normal mortal will actually take a picture of the moon just to try it out. How will it turn out then? That your gallery is full of different phases of the moon, so what?

Gallery month

Since I look at my feet rather than at the sky, I personally don't see the slightest benefit in it. This despite the fact that there are few changes here and the Moon is still just the Moon (which is good in a way, after all, especially if you remember the movie moonfall). But you have to smile in front of Samsung. Because he came up with something that no one else can do and he builds quite good marketing on it. Now it would like to tell us what to actually use such photos for.

We tried photographing the moon with other lenses as well, and the results are of course poor. So we didn't deal with any astrographic modes, which could get more out of the result, especially with regard to the path of the stars, we just aimed at the sky and pressed the trigger (in active night mode). You can see the not-so-glamorous results in the gallery above.
