Google's developer conference Google I/O 2023 took place yesterday, where the company presented a number of innovations related to artificial intelligence. One of them is a feature called Magic Compose for the Messages app.

As the website states 9to5Google, who had the chance to try out Magic Compose, the AI tool is capable of generating contextually relevant responses, which in itself is a significant improvement over the existing Messages Smart Reply feature. In addition, however, Magic Compose can take a message as a command and rewrite it to fit a given theme or style, including unusual styles such as song lyrics, poetry, or Shakespearean text.

The new feature could come in handy for those who spend a lot of time communicating via text messages and often have to switch between personal and work messages. In the Messages settings, it appears on the same page as existing features like the aforementioned Smart Reply. Like many of Google's other AI features, it's labeled Experiment. It's also worth noting that the tool, unlike other features that run locally on your phone, requires an internet connection.

At its developer conference this year, Google additionally announced the integration of AI into its search engines, an artificial intelligence testing platform called Labs, or making the Barda chatbot available in more than 180 countries around the world.
