Just take the review Galaxy S22 Ultra, copy it and replace last year's designation with this year's? To a large extent, yes, but there are a few details that need attention. For example, as it can be with regard to new news Galaxy S23 Ultra the best smartphone for many years and unfortunately for many years to come.

Galaxy The S23 Ultra is the king of the Samsung portfolio. Yes, it is here Galaxy z Fold4, but it does not have such equipment with regard to the chip or cameras, it practically scores mainly only with the internal display, but it is brought down by an even higher price. There is no need to lie to yourself about anything, considering that it is Galaxy S23 Ultra vs Galaxy S22 Ultra is so different. It's not, but the little that differentiates these two phones is quite substantial.

Big and heavy, but we're used to that

There is one major problem with regards to visuals. An experienced eye will recognize the differences when they notice the larger lenses, which are set a little lower, and the smaller curvature of the display. But if you show both phones to a stranger, he will claim that they are the same, and what's worse, he won't know which one is newer and better equipped. It doesn't necessarily hurt, it just doesn't boost your ego too much.

But the important thing remains, i.e. water resistance, the dimensions themselves have only been decently adjusted by tenths of a millimeter, the weight fortunately has not increased by more than 5 g. It is a large and heavy device, but that is probably clear to everyone, and after all, we are already used to it from the ranks Galaxy Note, S21 Ultra and S22 Ultra. Others are crayons, and it is precisely by them that you can recognize the novelty best. Then glass was also improved here. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is nice, but the display is just like a magnet to hairpins.

While we've had a bite of the display, not much has changed here either. Nevermind. Both generations use 6,8-inch 1440p panels that reach a maximum brightness of 1 nits and have refresh rates between 750 and 1 Hz. One of the significant differences is just the mentioned curvature of the display, which was in the model Galaxy S23 Ultra modified, or smaller, so that the device is better held, controlled and more friendly to covers. We confirm everything, we stand behind everything and we are happy for everything. Next time we would just beg to remove the curvature altogether. It has no functional meaning and actually just makes the display smaller.

Performance, performance, performance! Thanks for Snapdragon

Why will Galaxy S23 Ultra legend? That phone has a lot of bugs and problems, especially in connection with the cameras and the resulting photo quality (especially with HDR). However, we've kind of gotten used to it, that certain labor pains are just there, and probably will be in the future. But Samsung tries to solve them with updates and usually successfully.

Galaxy The S23 Ultra will enter the hearts of many thanks to Snapdragon - that is, of course, if we are talking about the European market. Gone is the sweltering and unbalanced Exynos, and here we have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 built exclusively for the device Galaxy. We couldn't have had anything better here, which is why it is necessary to hold back a tear at the news that Exynos will return next year, probably with the 2400 designation.

It simply means that if it happens, it will Galaxy S23 Ultra (and therefore the entire S23 series), a clear reason to buy even in a year, i.e. already with the presence of the S24 series. You'll be robbing yourself of a year of updates, but you'll have a Snapdragon that doesn't heat up as much as it could, that has balanced performance, that runs like clockwork and handles everything you throw at your phone. You will also not expose yourself to the risk of all the vicissitudes of Samsung's new chip. It's sad, but it's just the way it is.

Increasing the basic memory from 128 to 256 GB is probably OK, however, if it were to keep last year's prices. This way, it didn't really bring anything more than the need to reach deeper into the pocket. But at least Samsung prepared interesting discounts, which are now gone, so if you're thinking about the phone, you might want to save and have 128 GB, but you're out of luck. Sorry.

The battery has a capacity of 5 mAh and can be charged wirelessly at 000 W and wired up to 10 W. There is reverse wireless charging up to 45 W. Why Samsung reduced wireless charging from 4,5 W is a question, but the truth is that about the 15 W less you don't know much about speed anyway. Samsung is no longer in the race with charging speeds, and you can't blame it. At least he keeps fit. As for the durability itself, there is nothing to criticize here. A better chip makes it better as u Galaxy S22 Ultra. It's still true that you'll be fine for a day, but it's still a good idea to charge the device on the second day just to be sure, because 30 to 40% will hardly last you the next day.

Photography flop

But how for whom. DXOMark Galaxy S23 Ultra serval as he could, Snapdragon not Snapdragon, 200MPx not 200MPx. The truth is that taking pictures with the Ultra is still fun, but still just like with the S22 Ultra or indeed with the S21 Ultra. You can recognize the 200MPx at night. You will recognize them when you take photos at 200 MPx, which you won't do anyway. You will recognize them with a future update, when you will be able to take portraits at 2x zoom or record videos at 2x zoom, where each time a section will be made precisely from 200MPx, you will not take regular photos of this size anyway.

Well, you can if you appreciate it and well, it's true that pixel binning works here, which has the potential to make better photos. But you can't see it with your eyes. During the day at all, at night if you have a trained eye and if you view the photo on a large display, not on a phone. The new photo features are nice if you have time to try them out, it's sad with the ultra-wide camera, which is still poor. The telephoto lenses are both great, and you'll love the 10x periscope. Yes, but that also applies to previous generations that already had it, nothing changes here, maybe just software gaming.

The fact that the resolution of the front camera has dropped from 40 MPx to 12 MPx is actually positive. Bigger pixel = more light. What about the fact that Samsung contradicts itself by using 200 MPx instead of 108 MPx in the twenty-two. Photos are nice, if you can look at yourself in such detail and compare the differences between generations, I don't really have the stomach for it. For video calls, it doesn't really matter what camera you actually have on your phone, because winning can sometimes be worse.

Camera specifications Galaxy S23 Ultra:

  • Telephoto lens: 10 MPx, f/2,4, 3x optical zoom, f2,4, angle of view 36˚
  • Periscope telephoto lens: 10 MPx, f/4,9, 10x optical zoom, angle of view 11˚
  • Front camera: 12 MPx, f/2,2, angle of view 80˚

The question for almost 40 thousand: To buy or not?

Galaxy The S23 Ultra has a hell of a lot in common with its predecessor. It improves it in only a few aspects. But the chip used is the clear choice whether you're considering the S22 Ultra or the current model. It will certainly play a role in the successor as well, if it makes sense to invest in him. To be honest, it doesn't make sense to buy it just for the camera, because you probably won't use the extra 92 MPx in any way - unless you're a professional mobile photographer.

I didn't mention the S Pen, but there's not much to say about it because nothing has changed here. It is also what sets this real flag apart from the rest of the portfolio. But the S22 Ultra already has it. Owning this particular model, and if the Exynos outright didn't turn me on, the S23 Ultra leaves me cold. I guess Samsung didn't want that, but that's just the way it is. Having S21 Ultra, I do not hesitate to buy. But Snapdragon makes the new product a really good buy, especially considering the uncertain future and Samsung's policy on the issue of fitting its flagships with its own chips.

In the entire Ulter generation, the S23 can be an exotic on the European market that would be a shame to miss. Due to the long-term update policy, it will last you a really long time, whether you buy it now or in the fall. But I would wait until later. It's not exactly a Christmas present when we're expecting it in February Galaxy S24 and there is the potential for a significant discount on this current generation. On Galaxy The best thing about the S23 Ultra is that it doesn't have much to disappoint you, only to excite you. Although it costs almost as much as a monthly average salary. But the money will be there, we won't be, so why not make life a little more pleasant.
