Poslední informace speaks for the possible establishment of cooperation between Tesla and Samsung, which could be very beneficial for both parties. This is indicated by the meeting of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who met for the first time with Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong during his recent business trip to the US. The meeting between the two top representatives concerned possible business relationships in the field of semiconductor chips for the automotive industry and took place at the headquarters of Samsung Research America in California's Silicon Valley.

Musk and Lee reportedly discussed the topic of making semiconductor chips for Tesla's self-driving cars at the Samsung Foundry. Tesla is reportedly designing its own processors that will power its Fully Self-Driving cars, FSD for short, and Samsung Foundry could offer their production. The fact that the CEO of Samsung Semiconductor, Kyung Gye-hyun, and Choi Si-young, President and CEO of Samsung Foundry also attended the meeting speaks for this.

This is not the first case of cooperation between the two entities. Samsung offers many components for Tesla electric cars, including batteries from Samsung SDI and Exynos Auto chips or camera sensors from System LSI. The Samsung Foundry in Austin, Texas, USA already produces chips for Tesla using the 14nm process, with future ones most likely to be produced using the Samsung Foundry's 5nm manufacturing process.

Although Tesla has not yet announced its decision on who will ultimately win the contract to manufacture its chips, the meeting between Elon Musk and Lee Jae-yong certainly bodes well for the Korean tech giant. There have also been reports that Tesla is considering outsourcing to Samsung's main competitor, TSMC, so we can only wait for Musk's decision.
