If you use the Google Drive cloud storage, you've surely come across files shared by people you don't know. It is often fraud of various kinds. The American tech giant is now finally solving this annoying problem, through the spam folder.

Now Google Drive finally has a spam directory to catch this "junk". Google announced the new feature quietly via a blog post contribution during the developer conference Google I/O 2023, which took place last week.

The spam folder in Google Drive works pretty much the same as the one you'll find in Gmail. It proactively captures unsolicited shared spam by scanning information surrounding the user and shared content. If you find shared spam that Google's algorithm missed, you can simply drag it to the appropriate folder. As usual, this will help the algorithm figure out what is spam and what isn't.

Once "trash" is moved to the spam folder, it will remain there for 30 days. After that, Google Drive will clean it permanently. You can of course clean up the folder manually at any time. Google added that it will start rolling out the new feature to Drive on May 24. It should reach most users by the end of the month or the beginning of the next one at the latest.
