In March, Samsung launched two new flagships – Galaxy A54 5G a Galaxy A34 5G. We recently mentioned the first phone reviewed, while we concluded that at its current price it is not such a good buy. It has its indisputable qualities, but it is brought down by some not entirely understandable flaws. Now it's his sibling's turn. We can already reveal about him that we liked him more, and if we are Fr Galaxy The A54 5G claimed to be the new uncrowned king of the mid-range, o Galaxy A34 5G we can say that it is the new king of the middle class with a crown. If you're wondering how we came to this conclusion, read on.

Package contents? waste of words

Galaxy A34 5G with just like Galaxy The A54 5G comes in a slim box, in which you can find only the essentials. So, in addition to the phone itself, about a meter long charging/data cable with USB terminals on both sides, several user manuals and a needle to eject the SIM card slot (more precisely, for two SIM cards or one SIM card and a memory card). Of course, the charger is missing here, because "ecology". We will repeat ourselves, but such a poor packaging simply does not deserve the phones of the Korean giant. If someone is the long-term number one in the smartphone market, the contents of the box should also match this. We can only hope that Samsung realizes this in time.

The design and processing excites

The phone looks very nice at first glance, subjectively better than Galaxy A33 5G. The symmetrical frames around the display, the minimalist design of the camera, where each lens has its own cut-out, and the color are "to blame". We tested the light purple variant and it must be said that it suits the smartphone incredibly well (in addition to that, it is also available in lime, black and "changeable" silver). Both the back and the frame are made of plastic, but you would hardly know it at first glance. Especially with the frame, the imitation of metal is very successful.

The processing is top-notch – nothing breaks anywhere, everything fits perfectly and the phone is unlike Galaxy The A54 5G (which has a glass back) doesn't slip out of your hand. It is also worth noting that, compared to its siblings, it does not wobble on the table, because its cameras do not protrude from the body as much. It's a mystery to us why Samsung checked this on one phone and not on the other. Lest we forget Galaxy The A34 5G has – just like its predecessor – an IP67 degree of protection, which means that it can withstand immersion in a depth of up to one meter for 30 minutes.

Keep your eyes on the big display

Galaxy The A34 5G also has an improved display compared to its predecessor. The latter grew by 0,2 inches year-on-year to 6,6 inches, has a higher refresh rate (120 Hz vs. 90 Hz; compared to Galaxy A54 5G is not adaptive though), higher maximum brightness (1000 vs 800 nits) and supports Always-On mode. It's of course Super AMOLED, which means it boasts vivid rich colors, perfect blacks, perfect contrast and great viewing angles. Thanks to the higher peak brightness, it has excellent readability in direct sunlight. The only thing the display lacks is support for the HDR format, which is a bit of a shame because Galaxy A54 5G "does it".

Of course, the display offers the Eye Comfort function, which saves your eyes by reducing blue light (which is especially useful in the evening), or dark mode. It has a built-in fingerprint reader, which, like its sibling, works absolutely reliably.

You will not complain about the performance

The phone is powered by a few months old mid-range Dimensity 1080 chipset, the performance of which will be quite enough for you. Everything including movement in the environment, launching and switching applications is smooth, we did not notice the slightest "jerk". Of course, we also tried games, specifically Asphalt 9, PUBG MOBILE and Diablo Immortal, which are quite graphically demanding, and they all ran smoothly and stably, even if not at the highest details (however, no one expects that from a smartphone of this price category). The phone did heat up when playing for a long time, but definitely less than that Galaxy A54 5G.

More than solid performance is also evidenced by the results the phone achieved in popular benchmarks. It scored 488 points in AnTuTu and 069 points in Geekbench 6 in the single-core test and 1034 points in the multi-core test. For comparison: Galaxy A54 5G "grabbed" 513 of them, or 346 and 991 points. Both smartphones can therefore be considered comparable in terms of performance. Let's add that we tested the highest variant of the phone, i.e. the one with 2827 GB of operating system and 8 GB of internal memory.

Even the camera (during the day) does not disappoint

Galaxy The A34 5G is equipped with a triple camera with a resolution of 48, 8 and 5 MPx, while the main one has optical image stabilization, the second fulfills the role of a wide-angle lens and the third serves as a macro camera. So compared to its predecessor, the phone lacks a depth sensor, although this is not really a loss, since it is replaced by software. During the day, you will certainly not complain about the quality of the images - the photos are sharp enough, have adequate contrast and a decent dynamic range. Their colors seemed a bit more saturated to us than those we took with Galaxy A54 5G. The more than usable digital zoom and fast and accurate autofocus deserve praise.

At night, the quality of the images drops quite drastically. There is noticeable noise, loss of detail and they are inconsistent in color. The night mode is practically useless, it will probably only be used when taking pictures in deep darkness (when it turns on automatically), but the resulting images will still not be something to brag about. In addition, taking a photo in this mode takes several seconds, which limits its usability even more. The ultra-wide-angle lens is completely unusable at night, producing strangely darkened images (especially at the edges). However, this "strangeness" did not surprise us, because we already encountered it in Galaxy A54 5G. Zoom, on the other hand, is much more useful, although usually only to lower degrees. Overall, the night photos aren't as bad as the words above might suggest compared to what it takes Galaxy A54 5G, however, are clearly worse.

The main camera can shoot videos in up to 4K resolution at 30 frames per second. During the day, the videos look very good at this resolution, they are perfectly sharp without any hint of noise, full of details and have a wide dynamic range. The colors are somewhat more saturated and the contrast is higher, but we are used to that with Samsung phones. 4K videos quite noticeably lack stabilization, which (as in Galaxy A54 5G) only works up to Full HD resolution at 30 fps.

Video quality drops rapidly at night. They are noticeably out of focus, have blurred details, somewhat dull colors and are generally darker than they should be in reality. Here he has Galaxy A54 5G clearly on top.

It can last over two days on a single charge

A strong point Galaxy A34 5G is battery life. Although it has the same battery capacity as its predecessor and sibling, i.e. 5000 mAh, it lasts a little longer on a single charge. With normal use, you can get more than two days, with more intensive (shorter gaming sessions, frequent Internet surfing, watching YouTube videos...) less than two days and with very intensive (frequent gaming sessions, permanently on Wi-Fi, watching films...) for less than one and a half days. The Dimensity 1080 chip is thus obviously more energy efficient than the Exynos 1280, or Exynos 1380.

Unfortunately, we didn't have a charger with us at the time of testing, so we can't tell you how long it will take to fully charge the phone. However, according to available information, it takes about an hour and a half, which is almost an unbearably long time these days (charging with a cable takes about two and a half hours). In this area, Samsung has long-term great reserves, and it is high time that it brings real fast charging to its phones (not only mid-range) (today, it is not an exception when a mid-range phone is fully charged in "plus or minus" half an hour, see for example Realme GT2). For completeness, let's add that Galaxy The A34 5G charges with a power of 25 W (just like its sibling, but also, for example, the basic model of the flagship series Galaxy S23).

Is it worth buying? Clearly

As it follows from the above, Galaxy We really liked the A34 5G. It boasts excellent design and processing, an excellent large display, performance that is enough even for more graphically demanding games, very solid quality of photos taken during the day, great battery life and, like its sibling, a tuned and widely customizable One UI 5.1 superstructure and a long software support ( four upgrades Androidand five years of security updates).

There are very few shortcomings, the biggest of which are the average to below average quality of night shots and poor quality of night videos. Then there is the evergreen smartphone Galaxy, and slow charging. We would have to think about other weaknesses for a long time and we probably wouldn't have thought of anything anyway. In other words, Galaxy The A34 5G is definitely worth buying, as it offers a truly excellent price/performance ratio. Samsung sells it on the Czech market from 9 CZK (it is therefore 490 CZK cheaper than Galaxy A54 5G), however, you can get it for more than two thousand crowns cheaper. This is a real hit of the middle class, which can only be recommended.
