Latest informace on indicate that the giant in the field of photography, Canon, intends to follow the example of some competitors and enter the world of mobile photography and establish cooperation with one of the smartphone manufacturers. This would be one of the last cases of a merger between a camera company and a mobile device manufacturer.

In the last few years, we have seen quite frequent collaborations between camera companies and smartphone manufacturers. Recently, this concerned, for example, the companies Leica and Xiaomi, ZEISS and Vivo or Hasselblad, which was significantly involved in the photographic equipment of OPPO and OnePlus phones.

Now source Digital Chat Station at Weibo claims that photography veteran Canon has similar intentions and wants to cooperate with one of the smartphone manufacturers. There is no word yet on Canon's specific partner, but given that Xiaomi, vivo, OPPO and OnePlus have already concluded such a partnership, Asus, Google, Honor, Huawei, Motorola, Realme or Samsung are offered as theoretical candidates. These partnerships involve the primarily camera-focused companies involved in aspects ranging from image tuning to more ambitious ones that lead to new software features and hardware such as lenses.

In this context, it is clear that these agreements can have significantly different results. For example, the Hasselblad-branded OnePlus 11 cameras were disappointing to many in terms of color reproduction and low-light image quality. At the other end of the spectrum is the Xiaomi 13 Pro camera, which has really benefited from the relationship with Leica and its outputs are excellent. Let's hope that on the part of Canon, which certainly has something to offer from its technologies, it will not be just an experiment or an effort to draw attention to itself. Canon could enter the game, for example, with an automatic focus system or use years of experience in the field of optics.
