Perhaps some of us feel a touch of nostalgia when we remember the early days of streaming. The offer was relatively poor and when Netflix introduced the interface in Czech, we celebrated. Today, everything is different and we really have a lot to choose from. On the other hand, the media streaming market can seem a bit fragmented, with players coming and going or simply buying each other out. Despite various fluctuations, Netflix managed to survive the changes and maintain its premium position.

Recently, however, the company has been putting considerable pressure on the practice of account sharing, which it once touted as one of the benefits of its offering. However, the days of subscribers sharing their account credentials with non-paying viewers are definitely over. After several initial tests and the subsequent introduction of new rules in various countries, Netflix is now transferring its restrictions on password sharing to the US, and the Czech Republic will not be an exception.

Users who share their passwords can expect to receive an email from Netflix soon explaining that they are only authorized to share the account with members of the same physical household. The company makes its point support page, that he considers only two ways to be legitimate, namely exporting the user profile to a new, separate and paid account, or paying 8 dollars in the United States, in the case of the Czech Republic 79 crowns per month for adding another member, while the payment itself is of course made by the owner.

Added members can continue to browse outside of the primary household the account is tied to, just like before. However, they are limited to streaming on only one device at a time and can also only use one device to store downloaded media. At the same time, this eventuality is only available for Standard and Premium tariffs and currently does not apply to subscribers whose membership is billed through Netflix partners.

The advice from the streaming giant is for subscribers to keep an eye on who has access to their k profile, log out of unused devices and assess whether, for example, a password change is in order. Netflix insists it has yet to see any major exodus of users angered by the changes, but instead reports an increase in subscribers in some markets where the restrictions are already in place. Nevertheless, the American viewer is quite essential for the company, and it will therefore be interesting to see how they will react to this step in the coming days and weeks, overseas and subsequently here.

The Netflix app is available on google playy, Apple Store and the Microsoft Store, where you can download it for free and then choose your subscription from 199 CZK for the basic one to Premium, which will cost you 319 CZK per month.
