In a few days, this time we have the highly anticipated Apple WWDC 2023 conference, where it is assumed that an AR/VR headset will be introduced, probably under the name Apple Reality Pro. It seems that the South Korean giant does not want to be left behind in this direction and is apparently planning to launch its own augmented reality headset to compete with its rival. He is now planning the development of chips for devices of the XR type, i.e. Extended Reality.

Samsung's offshoot System LSI, which is behind Exynos processors and ISOCELL camera sensors, has taken the first steps to produce processors for XR devices. The company's motivation to enter this market segment is generally simple and logical, because it can be assumed that the apple company will be followed by other entities that want to gain a significant position.

According to a company report KEDGlobal the company will aim to become a player equal to Google and Qualcomm. It is possible that the South Korean company will design completely new chips or proceed to modify existing ones to meet the needs of XR devices. Chipsets of this type ensure the operation of the operating system and applications, and are also used to calculate data from sensors and to monitor the user's movements.

The potential for similar devices is huge as a result. They can provide and help create intense and complex audiovisual experiences, but also function as language translators, mediate meetings where you will feel that you are personally present or overlay a real view of the surroundings with a lot of data during navigation, and this is just a random list of possibilities .

According to a report by Counterpoint Research, more than 2025 million virtual and augmented reality devices could be sold annually by 110, a giant leap from the current 18 million units per year. There is a prediction that the entire segment could reach up to $2025 billion by 3,9 from $2022 billion in 50,9.

On its first XR headset, Samsung Mobile Experience cooperates on the software side, i.e. in terms of the operating system, with Google and on the hardware side, namely the processor side, with Qualcomm. So let's see what Samsung will surprise us with. Perhaps after witnessing the massive boom in artificial intelligence, the world of virtual and augmented reality will be next.
