One of the biggest environmental problems today is e-waste. While we can all work together to solve it, for example by using devices longer, replacing batteries whenever necessary/possible, or recycling our old devices, companies must also do their part. Tech giants like Samsung emphasize the need to reduce e-waste at every opportunity (through "Swap your old device for new" programs), but they could be doing a lot more, with the risk that the end result won't match their efforts. Perhaps nowhere is this more apparent than with the Korean giant's new tablet lineup Galaxy The Tab S9, or rather its base model.

Despite the eighteen months that passed between performances Galaxy Tab S9 and Tab S8, both tablets are almost identical in size and shape. Looking at the relevant specs, the Tab S9 is about half a millimeter longer, half a millimeter taller, and less than half a millimeter thicker than its predecessor. Due to the very similar dimensions, some pieces of accessories for the Tab S8, specifically keyboard docks, should theoretically fit it.

Unfortunately, if you were hoping that your keyboard dock from last year would work with the new tablet, you'd be wrong. Technically speaking, the docks for the Tab S8 fit the new tablet "plus or minus", however, after connecting and starting to type, you will receive a warning that these products are not compatible.

It's certainly a shame, because the new keyboard docks aren't exactly cheap—the Book Cover Keyboard Slim Tab S9 retails for $140 (at us costs roughly 4 thousand CZK) and Book Cover Keyboard for 200 dollars (here is available for approximately CZK 5). The pro-customer approach stands in this respect Apple – one of its keyboard docks (specifically the Smart Keyboard Folio for 11” iPad Pro) fits all four generations of 11-inch iPad tablets, as well as the 4th and 5th generation iPad Air tablets. We can thus hope that if Samsung is serious about its efforts in the field of e-waste, it will inspire with its "eternal" rival.
