Nowadays, when the name Samsung is mentioned, the vast majority of people immediately think of smartphones, i.e. televisions, headphones, tablets or white electronics. However, it hasn't been that long since Samsung he tried to establish himself on the market with printers as well. So you can meet Samsung printers even today, even though this South Korean giant is no longer around does not produce at all. But do you have any idea what was behind the end of Samsung in the printer market?

1

As late as 2016, Samsung was the fifth largest seller of printers in the world. The catch, however, was that fifth place in the world meant a mere 4% share of the total market, while the reigning HP, or Hewlett-Packard if you prefer, already held a share of 36%. And since this company set trends in the field of printers for a long time, it was clear to Samsung that it was practically impossible to compete with it.

In addition, already in 2016, the printer market was facing a major decline due to the meteoric rise in popularity of smartphones, computers and tablets, which marked the boom in digitization. The creation of physical documents suddenly began to lose some of its meaning, as they were replaced by documents in electronic form.

It was this direction that Samsung liked so much that it began intensive negotiations with HP about the purchase of its printer division, and in September 2016 HP officially announced that this transaction would indeed take place. Just for the sake of interest, the purchase of HP was supposed to secure both hundreds of Samsung printer experts and more than 6500 patents that were supposed to help it in development.

And more than a year later – on November 8, 2017 to be exact – the $1,05 billion acquisition was completed. So, the South Korean giant suddenly had a lot of money to invest in mobile phones, computers and tablets, which are key for it until now. But what did this acquisition mean for the owners of Samsung printers when it came to their maintenance and more purchasing cartridges for the printer?

No end

However, as we mentioned above, Samsung printers can still be found today, which means that the manufacturer did not kill them by selling the division. After all, that wasn't what he, or HP, was about. By purchasing the printing division, HP has de facto acquired a lot of new customers to whom it will be able to sell toners for Samsung printers, even though they will already come from its workshop. He then solved the whole matter in a completely trivial way - in short, he just changed the packaging style of Samsung toners so that they looked like cartridges for HP printers.

Thanks to this, Samsung printers are still usable, as cartridges are still available for them, even under the "head" of HP. In essence, however, these are still the same original cartridges that Samsung developed for its printers. So, if your printer cartridge dealer recommends an HP cartridge for your Samsung printer, you don't have to worry - it's exactly the cartridge you need for your printer.

In terms of hardware, it is already about quite outdated facilities, which today's standards in the form of mobile application support, speed and so on, they no longer correspond very well

Due to their age, the repair is of course a lottery bet, as spare parts may not be available, as well as technicians who know their way around Samsung printers. So if they don't help either basic printer repair tips, look elsewhere.
