Samsung and AMDThe cooperation between Samsung and AMD can advance to a higher level. As we know, Samsung wants to change its direction and focus on semiconductors due to the unfavorable situation in the mobile market. The latest reports even say that the South Korean giant is planning to buy AMD, which would make it the second largest producer of desktop processors and a competitor to Intel. At the same time, Samsung would become a processor manufacturer for the PS4 and Xbox One, and would also begin to compete with nVidia in the graphics card market.

The South Korean manufacturer would like to buy from AMD both the division of classic CPU processors and the division of graphics chips, which AMD acquired 9 years ago when buying ATI Technologies. In addition, the company would like to start producing its own mobile processors, so it is obvious that it would try to use AMD technologies, which has many years of experience in the production of graphics, to achieve this goal. In addition, Samsung would have a new source of income for the future, which Samsung managed to confirm already in 2007, when it first considered buying AMD. However, there was a risk that it would violate the existing license between Intel and AMD, under which Intel licensed its x86 technology to AMD, which in turn licensed x86 64-bit technology, formerly known as AMD64.

Another use of AMD exists in the courts. By Samsung deciding to buy AMD graphics cards, it would give it an edge over nVidia, which has accused Samsung of infringing on patents related to GPU technologies. And because AMD was founded 8 years before nVidia, Samsung could use the newly acquired AMD patents to its advantage in court. Of course, only the future will tell if this will happen, since the administration has not yet been confirmed. Also of note is earlier speculation that Samsung was reportedly planning to buy BlackBerry, which ultimately turned out to be unconfirmed and the only thing that happened between them was a deepening of security cooperation Galaxy S6.
