Samsung flagships of 2017 – Galaxy S8 to Galaxy Note 8 – they will get in the update to Android 9 Pie support for Dolby Atmos technology. Dolby Atmos, according to the South Korean technology giant, should use three-dimensional sound to bring you a listening experience like that of a modern movie theater.

Samsung introduced this audio improvement to us together with the model Galaxy S9, when it also brought stereo speakers to its phones. Dolby Atmos is also available for some mid-range models, for example Galaxy A6. With a software update, Samsung has also made this technology available for some other phones as needed Galaxy A8 and now they will also join Galaxy S8 to Galaxy Footnote 8.

Both models, like most other mobile devices from Samsung, do not have stereo speakers and therefore Dolby Atmos will only work with bluetooth or wired headphones. However, there is no reason to be disappointed. This trick is more suitable for headphones anyway, because the improvement in audio quality is achieved mainly in the amplification of the overall volume and better separation of the left and right audio channels.

The same like at S9 a Notes 9 you'll be able to choose between Movie, Music and Voice sound modes, depending on what kind of audio you're listening to. Or you can leave the Dolby Atmos setting in automatic mode, which will try to find the most suitable mode according to the file being played.

In order to use Dolby Atmos on Galaxy Of course, the S8/S8+ or Note 8 needs to be connected or paired with headphones. After that, you need to pull down the top quick launch bar and select the Dolby Atmos icon. The default sound mode is set to automatic mode. If you want to change it, just hold your finger on the icon to bring up the Dolby Atmos menu. Or go to Settings>Sounds and vibrations>Expanded >Sound quality>Dolby Atmos.

When will we see this great feature? You can read that in our article about updating to Android 9 Foot.
