The 5G smartphone market is still in its infancy due to insufficient coverage, but Samsung is already clearly ruling it. This is evidenced by sales reports from IHS Markit. Samsung sold 3,2 million of its smartphones with 5G connectivity in the third quarter, earning a 74% share of the global market, according to data from the firm. In the previous quarter, this share was even 83%.

Because competitive Apple has not yet taken off with 5G smartphones, the rest of the market is occupied by Chinese smartphone manufacturers with 5G connectivity. Samsung is among the models with 5G connectivity that the South Korean giant currently offers Galaxy S10 5G, Samsung Galaxy Note 10 5G, Samsung Galaxy Fold and Samsung Galaxy A90 5G. The expected Samsung should also offer support for 5G connectivity Galaxy S11, at least in one of its variants.

It can be assumed that Samsung's impressively high sales will continue in the next year, which should be very important for the development of 5G networks. However, a gradual increase in competition can also be expected. Qualcomm recently introduced a pair of new super-powerful processors - Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 865, designed for a wide range of smartphones with the operating system Android. Both of these processors also offer support for 5G connectivity. Xiaomi has announced its ambitious plan to release at least ten smartphone models with 5G connectivity over the next year, and in 2020, 5G iPhones should also come Apple. Let's be surprised if Samsung will dominate the 5G smartphone market next year as well as it did this year.
