Samsung Galaxy S8+ was along with the model Galaxy S8 introduced on March 29, 2017. It was the successor of the Samsung model Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. In August 2017, to the family Galaxy S8 added another model Galaxy S8 Active, which was available exclusively from US carriers.

The S8 and S8+ offered improved hardware and major design changes over the previous series, including larger screens with higher aspect ratios and curved sides on both the smaller and larger models, iris and facial recognition, a new feature set for the virtual assistant known as Bixby, a move from Micro-USB for charging via USB-C, Samsung DeX and other improvements.

The S8 Active is equipped with more durable materials designed to protect against shock, shatter, water and dust, with a metal frame and a hard texture for a better grip, giving the S8 Active a robust design. The Active model's screen has the same dimensions as the standard S8, but it loses the curved edges in favor of a metal frame.
