Samsung Mirror OLED Display

Samsung showed off its Mirror OLED and Transparent OLED displays last month at the Retail Asia Expo 2015 in Hong Kong, during the show for information browsing and personal shopping. The company showcased this technological innovation as proof that retail chains will soon be without OLED panels. They did not reveal when this technology will hit the market, but it seems that Samsung could start mass production of Mirror and transparent OLED displays as early as the end of this year.

A recent report said that Chow Sang Sang Group, which operates large jewelry stores in Hong Kong and Macau, is set to introduce commercial displays in its stores powered by Samsung's Mirror and transparent OLED displays. The company operates approximately 190 stores throughout Hong Kong and China. Considering that Samsung already has secured customers for the mentioned panels in advance, one of the first will be a company called Mirum, which is going to sell displays based on this technology under the nickname "Magic Mirror 2.0".

Samsung's Mirror OLED display has a reflectivity of 75%, which is very similar to ordinary mirrors and at the same time is capable of providing digital information services in the same space. E.g. customers in the jewelry store will be able to see themselves virtually wearing a particular piece of jewelry without actually putting it on. This extended program will run on Mirror OLED displays, in which Samsung Media Player will be integrated together with Real Sense technology from Intel.
