Samsung has applied for a patent for virtual reality glasses with a field of view of 180 degrees. We also learn from the application that they will use the glasses to display content OLED curved displays.

The patent describes achieving a wide-angle field of view while maintaining a reasonable size and weight. To achieve this, Samsung uses two lenses for each eye. One classic Fresnel lens with a 120° field of view and a second wide-angle one placed at a certain angle. This should ensure a full vertical field of vision for classical vision and also partly for peripheral vision. Curved displays should ensure that the entire device still has compact dimensions compared to wide-angle glasses from other manufacturers.

Companies often patent technologies that never see the light of day. However, if Samsung came up with glasses with this great design, it could also use its position as the largest manufacturer of OLED panels in the world to fight the competition. The South Korean company could also keep the technology exclusive to these glasses, just like it did with the HMD Oddysey+ glasses.

In October of last year, the CEO of Samsung confirmed in an interview with Lowyat.NET that the South Korean giant is very interested in the field of VR and AR. Glasses from the series Odyssey they were a great success with the customer. It offers similar technology as the Vivo Pro, but at a much more affordable price. If Samsung were to put a reasonable price tag on this new device as well, it could meet with great success.

We'll have to wait and see if Samsung actually launches new VR glasses with an OLED curved display, but we'll keep you posted anyway. Follow our website.
